2026 Assistant Academic Director, College Prep

Georgetown University

General Information:

Assistant Academic Directors (AADs) are a resource for high school students, Mentors, and the Academic Director (AD). AADs can change gears quickly and troubleshoot problems independently to implement and oversee the day-to-day logistics of their programs. The AAD is an administrative support position for the AD and Program Management Team that requires an academic professional who is reliable, responsible, flexible, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. AADs must also possess the ability to supervise a team of Mentors throughout the summer.

College Prep:

The College Prep Program is a 5-week program designed to help high school students develop valuable skills to succeed in college and beyond. Students take undergraduate-level courses, attend lectures, test preparation seminars, and group sessions led by program staff. The College Prep AAD collaborates with the AD to support a college search and college skills series, developing topics such as college applications, goal setting, and study strategies. The AAD will also guide and support mentors in facilitating discussions and activities with students throughout the program.

Responsibilities:

Program Development

• Completing online and in-person training.

• Assisting in the final planning stages of the program with the AD and Program Management Team.

• Providing high-level administrative and programmatic support to the AD and Program Management Team.

• Executing administrative tasks and special projects as assigned by program leadership.

• Attending meetings with the AD and Program Management Team.

Program Implementation

• Attending and overseeing all program activities, including but not limited to lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and off-site visits.

• Overseeing the maintenance of daily and event attendance records, preparing daily reports, and reporting to appropriate parties.

• Providing classroom support and leading check-ins, discussion sections, and/or reflections as needed.

• Preparing, managing, and distributing course materials.

• May be asked to implement the instructional continuity plan and lead academic programming in the event of the absence of the AD.

• Building community and belonging amongst the students and staff.

Student Affairs

• Supervising and ensuring the safety of all students.

• Ensuring students are aware of and engaged in daily activities.

• Filling out incident reports and reporting unsafe, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, student conduct issues, and emergencies to appropriate parties for resolution.

• Creating a safe and supportive academic environment for students.

• Working collaboratively with residential staff to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.

• Providing support to students dealing with personal concerns (e.g. stress, homesickness, relationship difficulty) that may detract from their academic experiences.

• Providing support to students facing insecurity, unfamiliarity, and other challenges associated with adjusting to college learning and a diverse university campus.

Training and Supervision

• Leading daily briefing meetings with the Mentors.

• Training and supervising mentors for daily tasks, such as attendance and leading discussions.

• Enforcing University policies, procedures, and regulations for students and staff.

• Establishing appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the University's Protection of Minors Policy.

• Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

• Training Part I (Online) | May 18, 2026

• Training Part II | June 2 - 4, 2026

• College Prep in Session | July 5 - August 7, 2026

Work Hours:

• Approximately 5 - 10 hours per week before the first program launches.

• Approximately 15 - 25 hours per week while the program is running.

• Some overtime, evening, and weekend commitments may be required once programs begin (not to exceed 20 overtime hours per week).

Terms:

• AADs are designated for the spring and summer 2026 term with dates of employment from May 18, 2026 to August 8, 2026. AADs will be assigned to work programs for all or portion(s) of this period.

• The College Prep AAD is expected to live among College Prep Program participants and will help facilitate evening residence study halls as scheduled.

• AADs are full-time and precluded from having simultaneous obligations during the designated time commitment.

• Employment with the University is at will and may be terminated by AADs or the University at any time without notice or cause. Employment with the University should not be considered as an implied or explicit guarantee of employment or as a personal contract.

• Failure to meet the standards and expectations of the University, the School of Continuing Studies, and the Office of Summer and Special Programs may result in termination. AADs forfeit any provided university housing and meal plan once terminated.

Compensation:

• Pay: $18.80 per hour.

• Housing: University housing provided during assigned working weeks and during off-weeks between program assignments.

• Meals: Meal plan provided during assigned working weeks and during off-weeks between program assignments; boxed meals available during off-site visits that overlap with breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current or graduating undergraduate, graduate student, or recently graduated.

• Supervisory and/or leadership experience.

• Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current or graduating GU student.

• Experience working in an educational setting.

• Experience working with faculty.

• Experience working with high school students.

• Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University.

• Knowledge or experience relating to an Academy subject matter is a plus.
