Job Description

The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources at the University of Nevada, Reno, is excited to announce a unique opportunity for an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS). This position focuses on Sustainable Frameworks in Ruminant Nutrition integrating mechanisms that minimize the utilization of environmental resources and optimize growth performance, health, and meat production.

Responsibilities: The Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the ruminant nutrition program. The research program must emphasize the development of sustainable ruminant nutrition frameworks to optimize all production cycles, leading to high-efficiency meat production. This tenure-track position will be a 9-month appointment with a 50% Research, 40% Teaching and 10% Service/Outreach expectation. The candidate must possess the ability to develop innovative teaching and research programs, that include fundamental and advanced animal nutrition courses, mentor graduate students and develop a successful, internationally recognized, and competitively funded research program. Sub-areas of the research program may include but are not limited to climate-smart agriculture, utilization of by-products, water use mitigation, methanogenesis, microbial ecology, and animal welfare, health, and nutrigenomics integration. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate and contribute to interdisciplinary activities within the Rangeland Ecology and Veterinary Sciences programs.

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD in Animal Science or a related field

  • Evidence of teaching experience and research and grant writing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Evidence of ability to design and implement experiments and prepare manuscripts

  • Ability to work in isolated rangeland areas across Nevada and Intermountain West

Preference will be given to candidates with practical experience in cattle production operations, animal industry network, and to those familiar with animal agriculture in arid/semi-arid ecosystems.

Compensation Grade

Assistant Professor, 9-month, tenure track

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
