Job Summary:
Responsible for documentation of resident participation in group activities and one-on-one visits. Leads select group activities for residents in a variety of recreational pursuits. Facilitates activity and recreational needs of residents. Ensure that residents on each unit have the opportunity to participate in activity programs of choice through on-going contact and escort as needed.
Will also be responsible for supporting residents during designated smoking times in the courtyard. This role involves distributing cigarettes, lighting them for residents, monitoring residents during the smoke break and ensuring a safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment during smoking periods.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Document all activities timely and appropriately in Pro-Activity attendance.
2. Reviews individual resident attendance and participation records with the Recreational Director.
3. Meets with Recreation Director for input and guidance regularly.
4. Leads group activities for residents in a variety of recreational pursuits. i.e. parties, sing-a-longs,
bingo, exercises, cooking, crafts, church activities, food related socials and Sensory Programs.
5. Adequately determines and accommodates resident needs, abilities and interests regarding
leisure involvement.
6. Invites and escorts residents to appropriate unit programs.
7. Regularly provides and documents meaningful 1:1 in- room resident visits if indicated.
8. Posts a written monthly activities schedule on assigned wing, near the nurses’ station and in
Resident rooms.
9. Implements, in coordination with Program Director and Administrator, policies and
procedures as they relate to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.
10. Preparation for specialized Recreation programs.
11. Completes holiday facility decorations (balloons, streamers, birthday signs for resident rooms,
etc.)
12. Assists volunteers in recreational program as needed
13. Maintains and cleans department supplies and materials as assigned.
14. Any other task requested by Program Director.
15. Be present in the courtyard during designated smoking times.
16. Distribute cigarettes to residents as requested, ensuring the correct quantity is
provided.
17. Light cigarettes for residents and ensure they have everything needed for a
pleasant smoking experience.
18. Monitor the courtyard area to ensure that it is clean and tidy during smoking
breaks.
19. Follow safety protocols and assist residents with any issues related to smoking.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience in a customer service or supportive role is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate and understanding attitude towards residents.
Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work during designated smoking times.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to bend, lift, and carry items as necessary.
Comfortable working outdoors during smoking periods, in various weather conditions.
Work Schedule:
Flexible hours, including afternoons or evenings, depending on the scheduled smoking
times and activities.
