Job description

Manager, Actuarial

If you're looking for the stability of a profitable, growing company with the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup, we're hiring. SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Manager, Actuarial for the Businessowners Policy (BOP) Product Development unit of our Commercial Actuarial team.

As a Manager, Actuarial, you will drive day-to-day execution within the unit. You will manage technical and analytical assessments of complex business issues related to the development of new property products and maintenance/sophistication of existing ones. Other responsibilities include utilizing actuarial techniques to assist in the development and maintenance of advanced pricing plans, building and enhancing analytics that will inform actuarial product development and provide valuable business insights to leadership.

Success as a Manager, Actuarial means translating business requests into analytical solutions and effectively communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences. This role will have direct management of a small team of 2-4 individual contributors. It is expected that you will be able to provide direction to team members, review their work, and support their professional development. You will also be able to work independently and apply judgment appropriately. You take ownership of the projects you lead and ensure to set and collaborate with business partners from across the company.

This role requires a minimum of three days per week on-site in one of the following offices: Cheshire, CT; Chicago, IL; Jersey City, NJ; Cincinnati, OH; Fairfield, CA; Mountain View, CA; Houston, TX; Marlton, NJ; Tallahassee, FL; Tampa, FL.

What you'd be doing:

  • Manage the product development of new and existing Businessowner Policy products.
  • Lead rate adequacy (indication) reviews and renewal impact analyses to support the profitable growth of SageSure Commercial Lines.
  • Manage end-to-end product filings, including responses to rate-related objections from the Departments of Insurance.
  • Assist with research projects, including analysis of predictive model results and determining value of new third-party data in risk segmentation and rating.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence analyses.
  • Communicate analyses, project results, and other business initiatives on a regular basis to staff, peers, and business partners.
  • Manage and guide the professional development of 2-4 direct reports.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science or STEM-related field.
  • ACAS or FCAS, FCAS a plus.
  • 5+ years of P&C insurance experience.
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance products and industry. Commercial Property or Businessowners Policy (BOP) product experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical resources.
  • Strong technical skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, R and SQL.
  • Proven organizational and time-management skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to think critically and strategically.
