Department Summary

The Department of Personalized Health and Well-Being is dedicated to advancing health and wellness through lifestyle medicine. The Master of Science in Lifestyle Health Sciences and Coaching (MSLS) program equips students with evidence-based strategies to improve patient outcomes. The Health Care Clinician Track, a specialized program within the department, integrates lifestyle medicine into clinical practice, enabling professionals to address the root causes of chronic disease and enhance long-term well-being.

As the first graduate program in Texas to combine Lifestyle Medicine with Wellness Coaching, the department emphasizes a holistic approach to health education. Faculty and staff support innovative coursework, hands-on training, and a micro credential in lifestyle medicine, preparing students for careers in the rapidly growing field of preventive care.

Position Overview

This adjunct faculty position plays a key role in introducing students to the foundations and practical application of Lifestyle Medicine within contemporary healthcare and wellness settings. The adjunct faculty member will teach an Introduction to Lifestyle Medicine course designed to equip students with a strong grounding in the evidence base, principles, and competencies promoted by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Delivered in an online format, the course emphasizes the integration of lifestyle medicine approaches across clinical care, community health, workplace wellness, and personal practice environments.

The adjunct faculty member will engage students through virtual lectures, interactive discussions, case-based learning, and applied activities that highlight the six pillars of lifestyle medicine and their relevance across diverse populations and professional roles. Instruction will emphasize evidence-based strategies, behavior change principles, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve individual and population health outcomes. Faculty collaboration is an integral component of the role, ensuring course content remains aligned with current research, ACLM standards, and emerging trends in lifestyle and preventive medicine.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the adjunct faculty member will assess student learning, provide timely and constructive feedback, and foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging online learning environment. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with ACLM-aligned clinical practice, education, or certification, and / or demonstrated experience teaching lifestyle medicine–related content. Experience with online instruction and a passion for mentoring students as they develop practical, real-world skills in lifestyle medicine is essential.

This is a remote adjunct position that involves teaching two eight-week terms throughout the year. The schedule is flexible; however, instructors are expected to actively engage with students, deliver course content, and provide feedback in alignment with the established course timeline. As the position is fully remote, there are no on-campus or travel requirements. Expected hours will vary by term based on course preparation, instruction, grading, and student engagement, depending on enrollment and course needs. In addition to teaching, the adjunct faculty member will be required to attend two program meetings per term and may participate in optional team check-ins to support collaboration, consistency, and alignment with program goals.
