Classification Clerk Job Responsibilities:
• Conducting criminal background checks for the public
• Processing criminal record expungement orders from the court system
• Processing Permit to Carry a Pistol applications
• Processing Security Guard License applications
• Answering phone calls from the public
• Conducting criminal history checks for prosecuting attorneys
• Entering/quashing warrants in the state and national criminal history systems
• Working with police departments to confirm warrants and court orders
• Entering criminal case dispositions
• Entering Restraining/No Contact Orders into state and national criminal history systems
• Processing fax requests from Courts, Judges, and police departments
• Monitoring security cameras for all buildings
• The processing of applicants for a fingerprint based national criminal history check at the Customer Service Center
• Processing of applicant criminal history inquiries through the use of the AFIS Client Workstation
• To have a working understanding of the Rhode Island Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system and the workflow between the AFIS environment and the CCH environment
• Operation of BCI’s Quick Search two finger scan, a process for matching a two-finger scan with an existing ten print fingerprint card in the AFIS system
• To have a knowledge and understanding of all State statutes that require a National Background fingerprint check
This position does require working one weekend every 5-6 weeks.
