Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) Nurse

The Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) is a mixed specialty unit with a variety of cardiac critically ill patients.

The nurses on this unit create, nurture, and sustain a healthy work environment with a focus on the patient. Our staff members take ownership of decisions in which top quality outcomes are achieved.

On this 12-bed unit, nurses primarily care for respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis, and shock, DKA, heart failure, renal failure, complex vascular ENT surgeries, high risk surgical cases, STEMIs, and strokes. As a Registered Nurse you will work in collaboration with both our intensivists and hospitalist team, PT / OT, case management, patient / family liaison, and multiple other disciplines to ensure our patients are receiving excellent care.

Nursing skills gained on this unit :

  • Critical care assessment skills
  • Training for CRRT, IABP, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM), hemodynamic monitoring, and ventilator management
  • Assist with bedside procedures, such as central line and arterial line placement, bronchoscopy, intubation, chest tube insertion, and thoracentesis
  • Fostering support for patients and families during critical illness

    • Qualifications :

  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit / department specialty according to patient care policies.
