eBay is seeking a dedicated team-oriented and highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to join our Core AI division. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly visible and well-positioned team at one of the most established and heavily trafficked ecommerce companies in the world. You will be part of an agile team driving forward some of eBays most important and impactful AI initiatives.

About the Role

You will work closely with Software Engineers Researchers and Data Engineers across the full AI lifecycle : from early experimentation and prototyping to deploying production-grade AI systems that support millions of users. Your focus will include Multimodal Generative AI system working with videos images and textual data and contributing to both infrastructure and end-user capabilities.

We value curiosity engineering excellence and the willingness to challenge convention. Our systems handle billions of requests per day leverage large-scale GPU clusters and power key experiences across the platform.

Responsibilities

Design build and optimize systems that use multimodal data and Generative AI architectures in scalable reliable and cost-effective ways.

Lead development of AI led user experiences including those using videos live-streams images audio and textual data.

Help advance eBays internal platform for GenAI applications contributing reusable components and APIs.

Monitor and optimize AI systems in production for performance quality and responsible AI use.

Stay current with the latest advances in AI / ML and apply a critical lens when integrating new models or tools into the product stack.

Drive iteration on design implementation and evaluation processes based on experimentation and team feedback.

Qualifications

8 years in software or machine learning engineering roles.

4 years of focused experience developing and deploying AI-centric systems that use visual or multimodal data.

2 years building generative-AI systems including systems that incorporate VLMs diffusion models or other multimodal models.

Proven success in taking AI-powered products from prototype to production with an emphasis on maintainability performance and user impact.

Strong programming skills in Java or similar JVM languages with working proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch TensorRT).

Hands-on experience with :

Docker & Kubernetes

Big Data technologies (e.g. Hadoop Spark)

UI / UX considerations in application development

Bonus qualifications :

Working knowledge of Spring Framework

Familiarity with streaming data systems (e.g. Kafka Flink Beam Storm)

Familiarity with vector stores (PgVector FAISS Pinecone)

Experience with C and CUDA for performance-critical components

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below :

$210400 - $280900

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including location skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical financial and / or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
