Laundry Aide

The Laundry Aide performs day-to-day laundry functions to insure that an adequate supply of fresh laundry/linen supplies are maintained in facility linen closets. Give particular care to resident laundry, pressing/ironing garments as needed. This position is vital to providing direct care to the residents. This position is held by an essential employee and is vital to maintaining the quality of care given to our residents and patients.

Collect/sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas. Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment. Sort, count, and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with established procedures. Loads and unloads washers and dryers. Press/iron garments as necessary. Labels residents' personal laundry and linens as directed. Delivers personal clothing to the appropriate resident and/or storage area. Cleans dryer filters as necessary. Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc. to residents daily and/or as instructed. Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift. Knock before entering a resident's room. Ensure that the residents' personal and property rights are maintained by assigned personnel. Ensure that refuse is disposed of daily and in accordance with established sanitation procedures. Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry supplies is maintained to perform daily tasks; keep supervisor informed of supply need. Ensure that an adequate supply of clean linen is maintained in linen closets. Clean work and supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary. Perform day-to-day laundry functions as assigned. Performs other related assignments as required.

Position Requirements - High school diploma/GED preferred. Laundry Aide experience preferred. Knowledge of laundry care and maintenance and ability to anticipate laundry needs. Passion for caring for elderly. Pleasant and cheerful personality. Must be able to communicate effectively (written and oral form) in a care setting with residents, families, staff. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism. Able to respond productively and to handle additional tasks/projects as assigned. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. Tactful and courteous approach with residents, family members, staff, and visitors. Maintain confidentiality. Follow all policies/procedures and regulations.
