Planner - Aircraft Tooling

Job Description

At United, we have some of the best aircraft in the world. Our Technical Operations team is full of aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities professionals, and supply chain teams that help make sure they're well taken care of and ready to get our customers to their desired destinations. If you're ready to work on our planes, join our Tech Ops experts and help keep our fleet in tip-top shape.

Job overview and responsibilities

Planner - Aircraft Tooling leverages advanced data analytics and technical expertise to drive the development, procurement, and strategic allocation of all aircraft tooling to meet United's operational demands and schedules, while taking full ownership of tooling planning efforts for designated fleet(s) and tooling families. Utilizes data-driven insights and analytical tools to establish and enforce standard tooling requirements for each fleet type and mission, and actively maintains comprehensive inventories of non-standard tools requested by stations through robust database management systems. Applies technical proficiency in inventory management systems and logistics platforms to lead tooling logistics systemwide and directly coordinate all tool movement operations. Analyzes performance metrics and operational data to build and strengthen partnerships with customers (station toolrooms) and vendors, cultivating ongoing relationships through data-informed decision-making. Champions continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives by leveraging predictive analytics, process optimization techniques, and technical problem-solving skills to deliver measurable results in aircraft tooling efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Work closely with Tooling Long-term Planning group to leverage data analytics and forecasting models to assess tooling requirements at each station based on fleet type and maintenance missions, utilizing technical analysis to ensure tooling availability and minimize related OOS events
  • Utilize data-driven evaluation frameworks and analytical tools to send Request for Quote (RFQ), assess and negotiate price points/lead times, and prioritize purchase urgency from a multitude of external tool vendors while analyzing historical data and performance metrics to maintain target service levels for tool requests
  • Responsible for the assignment of Property Control (PC) numbers and establish asset tracking requirements through database management systems, utilizing technical proficiency in inventory tracking platforms to ensure that receipt to bin times on new tools meet targets through data monitoring and analysis
  • Collaborate with Line/Base maintenance operations to manage the tooling system distribution using SCEPTRE/eTIPS, applying technical expertise and data analytics to provide OSV and line maintenance with required specialized tooling, and conduct data-driven reviews of surplus and spare tooling stock on a continual basis using inventory optimization algorithms to minimize excessive inventory
  • Provide special project support as assigned, leveraging data analytics platforms and technical tools to initiate and execute processes and application improvements, develop data-driven training programs, and implement other activities to improve the productivity of the Company's tooling assets through quantitative analysis and performance metrics
  • Evaluate current tooling footprint against potential expansion plans using advanced analytical research methodologies, predictive modeling, and data visualization tools to identify allocation opportunities based on thorough statistical analysis and technical assessment in partnership with other tooling stakeholders
  • Support QA/QC audits and perform periodic tooling audits throughout operation utilizing data collection systems, audit management software, and analytical frameworks to track compliance metrics, identify trends, and generate actionable insights from audit findings
