About the Role
Picture your shift starting on the ramp as aircraft cycle through gates. You fuel, top off fluids, and ready the gear that keeps turnarounds on schedule. As our Aviation Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Diesel Technician, you’ll diagnose and repair both motorized and non-motorized Airline & Aircraft Ground Service Equipment—from tugs and belt loaders to carts and conveyors—so crews and customers keep moving.
Compensation: Target Wage $36.00 - $40.00/HR (final rate depends on experience, skills, and credentials).
Schedule: Open to 2nd or 3rd shift work with some weekend availability to support 24/7 airline operations.
A Day in the Life
- Prep and service equipment with fuel, water, oil, hydraulic fluid, and compressed air.
- Log units and document work to be performed; keep parts usage current and accurate.
- Perform advanced maintenance and repairs across engines, transmissions, electrical and brake systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems on mobile lifts and conveyors.
- Restore body components: bumpers, body panels, bag cart curtains and curtain rods; repair/replace towing hitches and tow bars.
- Rebuild or replace undercarriages, wheels, and tires; service bushings, shafts, end plates, springs, coils, armatures, push rods, valves, manifolds, tubing, hoses, and wiring.
- Use OEM manuals and test equipment to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues; operate and road-test equipment to validate performance.
- Remove, test, repair, or replace carburetors, governors, air/oil cleaners, ignition points, and auditory sensors.
- Measure and adjust tolerances on valves, bearings, cams, clutches, and drive shafts.
- Champion safety procedures; exemplify PrimeFlight service and safety standards; complete documentation; assist with other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- 6+ years of verified hands-on experience in diesel/heavy equipment, automotive, or GSE maintenance.
- Own full set of professional tools and a toolbox.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and consistent, reliable attendance.
- Clear, professional communication in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Comfort with iPads/tablets, computers, and mobile devices; able to interpret digital and printed technical information.
- Ability to obtain site-specific credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal as applicable).
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed by airline schedules.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Lift up to 70 lbs; prolonged standing/walking indoors and outdoors.
- Reach, grasp, push, and pull; crawl and crouch in tight spaces.
- Bend, stretch, squat, and kneel; climb and work at heights.
- Work around moderate to high noise, biohazards/chemicals, and outdoor elements.
- Hear spoken instructions and audible alarms; perform repetitive motions of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
