Job description
Do you want to join a team of creative and talented software engineers who are building and operating world class services built on amazing open source technology? The Amazon FSx Open Source engineering team is growing fast and we need your help to push the boundaries of the fastest cloud storage on AWS!

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon, with over a million active customers in 190 countries around the world. AWS’s code serves millions of requests per second and it does so with sub-second latency and in a fault tolerant manner. Amazon FSx for Lustre is a fast-growing AWS service that provides high-performance, cost-effective, and scalable storage powered by Lustre, the world's most popular high-performance file system. FSx for Lustre provides the fastest storage performance for GPU instances in the cloud with up to terabytes per second of throughput, millions of IOPS, sub-millisecond latencies, and virtually unlimited storage capacity. As AI/ML training and high-performance computing workloads grow rapidly, FSx for Lustre is the storage that keeps up with them.

Our customers solve compute-intensive problems in a wide variety of industries, including genomics, media & entertainment, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, financial analysis and more, and they love it!

As a Software Development Engineer, you will design and build transformative new customer experiences on Amazon FSx for Lustre. Delivering a reliable and high-performance service at AWS scale requires engineers with deep technical expertise and lots of creativity. At Amazon, we expect engineers like you to interact with customers, to understand our business goals, to innovate rapidly, and to deliver high-quality and ground-breaking functionality. Embark on a journey with us to grow the service for AWS. We need your passion, innovative ideas, and creativity to shape the future of the service at Amazon scale with a team that is super smart, driven to serve customers, and fun to work with!

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate highly-scalable software services
- Solve complex problems with a diverse team of engineers
- Mentor and grow junior engineers
- Contribute to a fun, inclusive team culture

A day in the life
Our team of talented, passionate engineers use the latest in serverless and virtualization technologies to build distributed systems at AWS scale. We solve complex, varied problems to enable customers in a diverse set of businesses from AI/ML to EDA, Media & Entertainment to HPC, and enterprise IT. We build infrastructure-as-code to deploy software quickly and efficiently across the globe and automate the monitoring and health of our software at never- seen-before scale.

About the team
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.

Why AWS? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that’s why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses.

Inclusive Team Culture Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences. Ongoing events and learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon conferences, inspire us to never stop embracing our uniqueness.

Mentorship & Career Growth We’re continuously raising our performance bar as we strive to become Earth’s Best Employer. That’s why you’ll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a better-rounded professional.

Work/Life Balance We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud.
