Position Summary :
The Industrial Engineering Manager plays a critical leadership role in Vallarta's Continuous Improvement team, responsible for driving operational efficiency across the retail network through labor standards development, workflow optimization, and process improvement. This individual will lead efforts to evaluate, design, and implement efficient store processes using industrial engineering principles and methodologies. They will serve as a key liaison between business units, workforce systems, and leadership to deliver data-driven recommendations that improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance the customer and employee experience.
Key Responsibilities :
Labor Standards & Workforce Optimization
- Develop, maintain, and lead the annual refresh of engineered labor standards using MOST, time studies, and other work measurement techniques.
- Evaluate the labor impact of operational and technology changes (e.g., self-checkout, tri-belts, queue systems) and provide expert labor forecasting guidance.
- Support workforce management systems (e.g., Logile) by ensuring labor standards and volume drivers are accurately configured to drive labor forecast models.
- Oversee labor modeling simplification efforts and maintain store profiles, characteristics, and labor volume drivers.
Process Design & Improvement
Conduct in-store time studies, method analyses, and workflow observations to identify inefficiencies and implement optimized solutions.Apply Lean Six Sigma and industrial engineering principles to reduce waste, improve labor utilization, and enhance throughput.Support layout design, spatial planning, and material flow in key areas (e.g., backroom, prep areas, checkout lanes).Collaborate with stakeholders to develop future-state process maps and implementation roadmaps.Business Partnering & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as the primary industrial engineering resource for Store Operations, HR / Labor Planning, Supply Chain, and Corporate leadership.Partner with business stakeholders to assess labor and process impact of new business proposals or initiatives.Participate in strategic initiatives and cross-functional working groups that influence labor allocation or operational standards.Provide training and mentoring to junior industrial engineers and assist with hiring decisions.Reporting, Analysis & Governance
Deliver data-driven insight through dashboards, reports, and presentations to communicate labor impact and ROI.Maintain documentation of labor standards, business rules, and operational processes for auditing and governance purposes.Ensure labor models adhere to company policies and data governance standards.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Strong understanding of engineered labor standards, work measurement systems (MOST, MTM, time studies), and workforce modeling.Proficient in Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to influence across all organizational levels.Strong technical skills in Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, and reporting / visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.Capable of coaching and developing junior team members.Ability to synthesize technical findings into actionable business recommendations.Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field (required).5+ years of progressive industrial engineering experience in retail, grocery, or supply chain environments.Experience working with workforce management platforms (Logile preferred).Lean Six Sigma certification preferred or ability to earn within 12 months.Experience leading cross-functional projects and delivering measurable business impact.Travel & Work Environment :
This position requires travel up to 30% of the time to store locations.Work is a mix of corporate office environment and in-store observations and implementation.Occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends based on project needs.Position Type & Expected Hours :
Full-time, Exempt.Core hours Monday - Friday, 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm, with flexibility based on business needs.This job description is not all-inclusive and may be updated as business needs evolve. The Industrial Engineering Manager may be asked to perform other duties as assigned in support of Vallarta's strategic goals.
