The Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office (ACTTC) is currently recruiting to fill an Accountant / Auditor position at either the I or II level. If you are interested in being considered at the II level of this opportunity, you must submit a separate application to the recruitment currently being conducted for that level. As a Property Tax Accountant / Auditor, you will perform a broad range of accounting and auditing functions to support the daily operations of the Property Tax Division. Responsibilities may include :

  • Performing complex property tax processes and ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Preparing and submitting required state reports accurately and timely
  • Managing school bond issuances, overseeing debt repayment schedules, and calculating tax rates
  • Developing revenue estimates to support financial planning and forecasting
  • Assisting with data collection and entry to support Board items and related documentation
  • Interpreting and applying various accounting and financial laws and regulations
  • Preparing a variety of accounting, budget, and financial reports
  • Coordinating the direction, revision, and / or development of accounting systems and procedures
  • Representing the office at board meetings and other meetings as needed, which may include delivering presentations
  • Training clerical and technical personnel, including the assignment and evaluation of their work

The ideal candidate will possess intellectual curiosity, an interest in doing research, and many of the following :

  • The ability to analyze, implement, and apply accounting standards, revenue and taxation codes, government code, and other regulations
  • Experience in governmental accounting and auditing, including preparing complex financial reports
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with taxpayers, taxing agencies, external departments, and the public
  • The ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment during critical revenue allocation periods
  • A passion for accounting, and continual learning and improvement
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Word and Excel
  • A Certified Public Accountant Certificate is highly desirable, but not required
  • The ACTTC Office provides a broad range of quality accounting, financial reporting, auditing, collection, financing, and investing services to County departments, agencies, districts, and the public. Its mission is to provide reliable and relevant financial services in an efficient, ethical, and effective manner to the citizens of Sonoma County while promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Office is comprised of nine divisions, which are overseen by an executive management team that includes the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector and three Assistants. ACTTC is staffed by 108 full-time employees and has an annual budget of approximately $167 million.

  • Career Advancement - With time and good performance, the opportunity for advancement to Accountant / Auditor II (salary up to $57.79 / hour)

  • Paid Parental Leave - May be eligible for up to 8 weeks (320 hours) after 12 months of County employment
  • Student Loan Debt Relief County employees may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through the U.S. Department of Education
