Job Title: Structural Detailer
Job Description
This Structural Detailer role focuses on transforming customer design drawings into clear, manufacturable structural steel joist and deck plans using AutoCAD 2D. You will split your time between detailed drafting and coordinating with internal teams and customers to ensure accurate, timely project delivery. You will join a growing detailing group that supports a busy fabrication facility, working on multiple projects at various stages while learning a proprietary AutoCAD add-in and contributing to a steady, long-term pipeline of work.
Responsibilities
- Review customer drawings and specifications and convert them into simplified, accurate detail drawings using AutoCAD 2D.
- Create detailed plans and drawings that support the manufacturing of structural steel joist and deck building systems.
- Use a proprietary AutoCAD 2D add-in (training provided) to produce consistent, high-quality detailing outputs.
- Coordinate regularly with internal teams, including team leads, checkers, and other detailers, to resolve design questions and ensure alignment on project requirements.
- Communicate with customers to clarify design intent, address issues, and support problem solving throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work on 5–6 projects simultaneously, managing tasks at different stages of completion while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Essential Skills
- Professional work experience demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and consistent attendance.
- Experience with design or drafting software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, with an understanding of real-world application of design.
- Ability to spend approximately 50% of time creating detail drawings in AutoCAD 2D.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with structural steel detailing, steel fabrication, or structural designs, including joists and decking, is highly preferred.
- Experience in steel joist design or structural detailing for building systems is a strong plus.
- Experience in design-to-production workflows, including creating CAD drawings and generating material lists or production orders for fabrication or construction.
- Familiarity with BIM concepts and workflows in a structural or fabrication context.
- Tekla 3D experience is a significant advantage, particularly as the team plans to add this capability in the near future.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Butler, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.25 - $23.25/hr.
