Job description

Our Airports Team is taking airport design to the next level. From roadway to runway or full terminal design, your career will soar to new heights.

A career in transportation is more than bridges, roads, and rail. As we plan, design, and manage projects that move people and goods from Point A to Point B, we create connections that transform our communities. Every airport, road, bridge, port, or transit project is an opportunity to make communities safer, cleaner, and more resilient. Together, we’re making an impact around the world.

If you’re looking for a career that moves, join our team of professionals who are passionate about the future of transportation.

Your Opportunity:

The New York City, NY office is looking for an Aviation Project Manager to join our team and help manage and grow our NYC Aviation group! This position will be responsible for helping grow our team and our aviation business out of the NYC office. It will also include winning, managing and delivering projects for clients at major large hub commercial service airports and Department of Defense airport facilities within our Airport Infrastructure Sub-sector.

Projects will include aviation infrastructure conceptual and final designs, technical reports and presentations, airspace analyses, master plan updates and other planning studies, construction or rehabilitation of airfield pavements such as runways, taxiways and aprons, and other miscellaneous improvements. This individual will work closely with the New York City Aviation Team Leader and the Airport Infrastructure Sector Leader to manage and grow the New York City Aviation Team. This individual may direct several project team members and will lead most aspects of projects from initial scoping through construction and project close-out.

The Stantec Transportation group provides services to both private and public sector clients. While you will be focusing on work in Maine and the Northeast, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with our other teams across the United States and in Canada and support their project needs as opportunities arise.

Why Choose Stantec?

  • Career development resources to expand your skills, enhance your expertise, and grow your career.

  • Ability to work alongside others who share your passion to support communities through exciting and unique projects.

  • Ability to join Stantec committees, employee resource groups, participate in community volunteering, and join various company or local groups/initiatives.

  • We put people first and want to help you make that appointment or the baseball game that you need to attend. At Stantec, we have a hybrid, flexible work schedule that meets both business and individual needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Interfacing directly with clients that include various Airport Authorities, State Aviation Authorities, and Department of Defense representatives.

  • In-depth knowledge of clients’ needs and standards and upcoming Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.

  • Leading design objectives and advancing airport projects through completion and final close-out

  • Prepares project Scope of Services and engineering fees, establishes project goals, milestones, and procedures, defines roles and responsibilities, coordinates project resources, and monitors project progress.

  • Work with the design team on deliverables, including preparation of drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, preparation of project specifications and construction cost estimates.

  • Preparing grant administration paperwork for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), as well as State grant administration.

  • Provides guidance to Resident Engineers during construction with the ability and confidence to solve problems as needed.

  • Lead the preparation of proposals and statements of qualifications.

  • Actively participates in the marketing process by delivering quality work, providing excellent client service, and assisting with project pursuits.

  • Takes an active mentoring role; encourages, motivates, and develops others for high performance; ensures that mistakes become learning experiences.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

Experience with the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program procedures and the FAA’s Advisory Circulars is preferred.

  • Strong aviation infrastructure design experience

  • Ability to manage all aspects of airport infrastructure project development.

  • Experience in successful aviation project pursuits including identifying opportunities, client engagement, developing teaming strategies, and developing proposals.

  • Strong ability to review designs for quality and completeness

  • Strong client interaction and relationship skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, multi-tasking, strong attentiveness to detail.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and interface with multiple project managers with a focus on mentoring staff and nurturing organic growth within a dynamic team environment.

    Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field

  • Minimum of 7 years of design, project management, or construction administration experience relating to airport infrastructure

  • Must have an active U.S. Professional Engineer license. PE license in the State of New York or New Jersey is preferred.

Candidate will primarily work in an office setting in New York, NY. Occasional field work may be required. Telecommuting is permitted up to 2 days a week, depending on business needs.
