At Boxcar Coffee Roasters our mission is to Uplift Lives and we do this through kindness, delicious handcrafted coffee and espresso beverages and lovingly crafted pastries, an attention to detail and passion for creating an experience for our guests day in and day out. A barista at Boxcar is someone who is passionate about coffee and creating memorable guest experiences. A barista at Boxcar is responsible for the overall feel of the cafe through positivity and attention to detail.

Barista responsibilities include :

  • Be welcoming and attentive to all guests and create a hospitable environment by engaging with and anticipating the guests needs at all times
  • Take customers orders accurately
  • Take the initiative to respond proactively to prevent service delays
  • Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following recipes and preparation techniques for different coffee drinks
  • Able to work in a high volume, fast paced environment while maintaining a positive outlook
  • Operate coffee grinder, brewer and espresso machines; as well as following all cleaning procedures on machinery as needed
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations
  • Maintaining and improving the appearance of the cafe and bar on a regular basis.
  • Cleanliness of the cafe to include cleaning tables, windows, bussing stations as well as doing dishes, taking out trash and recycling
  • Educating guests on our coffee and pastry offerings and providing insight on home brewing troubleshooting

    • What we offer :

  • Base pay starting at $12.80 / hr plus hourly pooled tips. We offer a Tip Subsidy of $8 / hr, if at any time for any reason tips drop below this $8 / hr threshold Boxcar will cover the difference ensuring a guaranteed take home of $20.80 / hr.
  • Boxcar employees receive free coffee and tea beverages at all times whether on shift or on a scheduled day off
  • All employees receive one bag of coffee per week
  • 50% Discount on all pastry, food
  • 20% on retail items (including brewing equipment, apparel and grab n' go offerings)
  • Sick Pay up to an accrued 48 hours

    • Physical Demands

    Stand and walk : must be able to stand for shifts and move about the cafe

  • Perform repetitive motions : with the hands, wrists, and forearms to operate espresso machinery
  • Taste / Smell : ability to detect and perceive the smell of coffee
  • Talk / hear : frequently communicates with customers
  • Carry weight, lift : lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
