    • POSITION DESCRIPTION :

    NOAA Fisheries' West Coast Region (WCR) is seeking a Fisheries Biologist to provide scientific and technical support. These positions will contribute to conservation, recovery, and management efforts for anadromous fish species, focusing on Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultations, habitat restoration, and science-based policy support.

    The successful candidates will conduct biological analyses, review project proposals, and collaborate with federal, state, tribal, and local partners to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. This role offers the opportunity to apply fisheries science expertise to real-world resource management challenges that directly impact the health of aquatic ecosystems in the Columbia Basin.

    RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Conduct ESA Section 7 consultations and biological evaluations for projects affecting listed fish species and their habitats.
    • Review and analyze scientific data, technical reports, and project proposals to assess potential impacts on fish populations.
    • Provide technical recommendations to improve fish passage, habitat quality, and species recovery.
    • Support habitat restoration planning and implementation efforts.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external partners, including agencies, tribes, and NGOs.
    • Prepare written reports, decision documents, and briefing materials like Biological Opinions, Letters of Concurrence, etc.
    • Participate in field assessments, data collection, and monitoring as needed.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation and contribute to program performance reporting.

      • REQUIREMENTS :

    • Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology, Fish Biology, Fisheries Science, or related field and 4 years of experience or Masters degree and 2 years of experience.
    • Knowledge of Pacific salmonid biology, life history, and habitat requirements.
    • Experience interpreting and applying the Endangered Species Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, and related environmental regulations.
    • Strong analytical skills for reviewing and synthesizing scientific and technical information.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment.
