JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Biology at CSU San Bernardino seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor specializing in organismal plant biology starting August 2026. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching student success and research with undergraduates and M.S. students. Teaching may include comparative plant morphology plant physiology local flora plant biology and diversity or plant development.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biology or related field is required by time of appointment
  • Publication record in plant biology
  • Experimental expertise applicable to undergraduate and Masters level research in organismal plant biology

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

  • Postdoctoral experience
  • University-level instructional experience in plant biology
  • Potential for developing an externally funded research program
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and / or graduate students in research
  • Evidence of scholarly activity publication and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Department of Biology has 15 tenure-track / tenured faculty with a variety of research interests as well as lecturers and technicians who provide essential support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for 3D printing fluorescence microscopy cell culture and stem cell research animal care and plant growth. The CSUSB herbarium hosts a small collection (about 4000 specimens) of mostly local addition the department has access to the College of Natural Sciences Electron Microscope and Image Analysis Center (EMIAC).
