Xavier University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biology to begin in Fall 2026, to contribute to its new undergraduate program in Neuroscience. The individual must hold a Ph.D. in an area of the biological sciences, with specialization in neuroscience strongly preferred. Responsibilities include : teaching the equivalent of 3 courses per semester including a 200-level physiology course, neuroscience, professional skills courses for majors and / or other upper division courses of interest; productive engagement in scholarly activities; mentoring undergraduates in a research program relevant to human health; and advising of students. The successful candidate should bring a passion for teaching undergraduates. Experience supervising undergraduates in research is a plus, as is the interest in collaboration with other Xavier faculty. Xavier University is not equipped for live vertebrate work, but has ample facilities for invertebrate models, particularly C. elegans .
A generous start-up package is available and multiple private endowments support faculty research in the sciences at Xavier. Seeking external funding to augment these funds is welcome but not required. Xavier is growing, with biomedical sciences a major focal direction and a College of Osteopathic Medicine opening in 2027. In addition to new research laboratories in the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine, Xavier is in the process of building a new facility that will house the Departments of Biology and Chemistry. Additionally, Xavier’s location in Cincinnati , a vibrant city with multiple universities, research hospitals and biotechnology companies, allows faculty to work with community partners to develop research and immersive learning opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. Xavier is a national university in the Carnegie classifications, and was recently named in the most innovative schools nationally by U.S. News and World Report.
Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts. Guided by our mission and values , we welcome and support members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We unreservedly commit to open and free inquiry, deliberately seek out multiple perspectives, and create a campus where everyone feels a sense of belonging .
At Xavier and in this department, we believe our people make all the difference in cultivating an inclusive environment t hat welcomes ideas, encourages innovation, and manifests belonging. We welcome candidates from all walks of life with different strengths, experiences, beliefs, and backgrounds to apply.
To be considered, applicants should submit the following to Xavier University’s website : an application letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy that incorporates how you can support student belonging, and a statement of research interests that includes ideas for research with undergraduates.
Please note only five attachments can be uploaded during the application process online. Consolidate documents if necessary.
Review of applications will begin November 10, 2025 . Finalists will be asked for letters of recommendation.
Questions may be sent to the Chair of the Department of Biology, Dr. Jennifer Robbins, at robbins@xavier.edu .
