Job Description

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Responsible for routine and emergency care on all patients while they are in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Assists in maintaining professional standards of patient care and in teaching technical aspects of procedures to other staff.
  • Performs other duties their individual registry or certification allows as requested by the management.

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS, Basic Arrhythmia and ACLS which must be taken in the first six months of employment.
  • IV Conscious Sedation should be taken in the first month of employment.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, certified with the Texas Department of Health.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Minimum of one year of special procedures or critical care experience.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling of heavy objects.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
  • Some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Duties and Responsibilities

    Pre and Post

  • Utilize hospital computer system to meet department / patient needs. Verifies correct patient by patient's armband and medical record number. Reviews the patient's chart to verify the physician's order.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of vessel / anatomies and disease processes.
  • Maintains knowledge of medications most commonly used in practice area. Correctly administers medications and able to calculate concentrations. Observes for possibly reaction and able to treat appropriately. Practices proper radiation safety.
  • Independently take appropriate action for hemostasis.
  • Rapidly recognizes arrhythmias and hemodynamic changes. Able to properly identify leads corresponding to coronary system. Able to perform patient assessments. Able to transcribe data and generate reports accurately.
  • Assist patient teaching regarding all cardiology related procedures. Works overtime when needed. Able to assist in all areas.
  • Communicates and updates patient during procedure. Assists patient teaching regarding all cardiology related procedures.
  • Accurately accounts for procedures and supplies used on each patient and demonstrates cost effectiveness in ordering and / or use of supplies.
  • Performs all other tasks / responsibilities as necessary.
  • Cath Lab

  • Demonstrates the ability to make knowledge-based adjustments of imaging procedures, equipment, contrast mediums and best positions to obtain images. Practices proper radiation safety.
  • Utilize hospital computer system to meet department / patient needs. Verifies correct patient by patient's armband and medical record number. Reviews the patient's chart to verify the physician's order.
  • Understands supplies and equipment and their compatibility with one another to include but not limited to IABP, Angio Jet, IVUS & pressure wire. Able to scrub diagnostic, interventional and pacemaker procedures. Independently take appropriate action for hemostasis.
  • Maintains knowledge of medications most commonly used in practice area. Correctly administers medications and able to calculate concentrations. Observes for possibly reaction and able to treat appropriately. Able to perform patient assessments.
  • Rapidly recognizes arrhythmias and hemodynamic changes. Able to properly identify leads corresponding to coronary system, right and left heart pressures and waveforms & oxygen saturations. Must have thorough knowledge of vessel / anatomies and disease processes.
  • Able to transcribe data and generate reports accurately.
  • Assist patient teaching regarding all cardiology related procedures. Works overtime when needed. Able to assist in Pre and Post areas.
  • Accurately accounts for procedures and supplies used on each patient and demonstrates cost effectiveness in ordering and / or use of supplies.
  • Performs all other tasks / responsibilities as necessary.
  • EP

  • Must demonstrate the understanding of supplies and equipment and their compatibility with one another Able to scrub diagnostic, interventional, electrophysiology, and pacemaker procedures.
  • Independently take appropriate action for hemostasis.
  • Scrub and assist physician with diagnostic, interventional electrophysiology procedures.
  • Scrub and assist with Electrophysiology procedures with insertion and removal of devices such as pacemaker and ICDS.
  • Maintains knowledge of medications most commonly used in practice area. Correctly administers medications and able to calculate concentrations. Observes for possibly reaction and able to treat appropriately. Able to perform patient assessments.
  • Rapidly recognizes arrhythmias and hemodynamic changes. Able to properly identify leads corresponding to coronary system. Must have thorough knowledge of vessel / anatomies and disease processes.
  • Assist patient teaching regarding all cardiology related procedures. Works overtime when needed. Able to assist in all areas.
