About the Role

Block LLP is looking for an experienced Civil Litigation Paralegal to join our Habitability Department.

This role will support plaintiff-side cases involving unsafe housing conditions, landlord negligence, tenant harassment, wrongful eviction, and other housing-related disputes. While prior habitability or landlord-tenant experience is a plus, we are also open to candidates with strong civil litigation experience who are interested in growing in this area of law.

This is a great opportunity for a litigation paralegal who understands pleadings, discovery, deadlines, filings, client communication, and trial preparation, and wants to use those skills in meaningful work that helps tenants and families pursue safe housing and justice.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced law firm environment.

About Block LLP

Block LLP is a rapidly growing plaintiff law firm dedicated to delivering exceptional results and exemplary service to our clients. We are passionate about helping individuals and families navigate difficult situations with compassion, advocacy, and expertise.

Our culture is built around five core values: Vibrant Culture, Teamwork, Relentless Pursuit of Excellence, Dependability, and Exemplary Service. These values guide how we support our clients, collaborate with one another, and approach our work every day.

What You’ll Do

  • Support attorneys through all stages of plaintiff-side litigation
  • Assist with habitability, tenant-rights, landlord-tenant, and housing-related cases
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Assist with discovery requests, responses, document review, and document production
  • File legal documents with the court and track filing deadlines
  • Maintain litigation calendars and help ensure deadlines are met
  • Organize and update case files, records, evidence, and client documents
  • Gather and review documents such as photos, inspection reports, repair requests, leases, notices, medical records, and other supporting evidence
  • Communicate with clients to gather information, documentation, and case updates
  • Coordinate with attorneys, clients, experts, inspectors, contractors, medical providers, opposing counsel, and court personnel
  • Prepare materials for hearings, mediations, depositions, arbitrations, and trial
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, binders, witness information, and case materials
  • Maintain accurate case notes and updates in the firm’s case management system
  • Provide professional, compassionate communication to clients throughout the litigation process
  • Assist with additional litigation and administrative tasks as needed

Requirements

    • Prior civil litigation paralegal experience required
    • Experience with discovery, pleadings, court filings, litigation deadlines, and case management
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable managing multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities
    • Professional, dependable, and proactive
    • Comfortable communicating with clients and handling sensitive information
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with attorneys and team members
    • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and legal case management systems
    • Interest in habitability, tenant-rights, housing, or plaintiff-side litigation

Preferred Experience

    • Habitability, tenant-rights, landlord-tenant, housing, or eviction-related litigation experience
    • Plaintiff-side litigation experience
    • Personal injury, employment, lemon law, consumer, or other high-volume civil litigation experience
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
    • Experience with California civil litigation procedures
    • Experience with e-filing and court procedures
    • Experience preparing cases for mediation, arbitration, or trial
    • Experience working in a fast-paced or high-volume law firm environment

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced litigation attorneys on meaningful cases.
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • High-growth law firm with opportunities for advancement.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Firm-wide events, team outings, and celebrations.
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks, beverages, and coffee.
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • 9 paid firm holidays annually, plus additional paid time off.
  • 401(k) retirement program.
  • Career growth and advancement opportunities.
  • Meaningful work that helps injured individuals and families pursue justice.
