Job description

Claims Specialist

Parker's is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Claims Specialist to support the administration of workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability, property, unemployment, and other insurance claims from initial reporting through resolution. Working closely with the Risk Manager, Human Resources, Operations, Legal, and insurance partners, this role investigates claims, maintains accurate records, communicates with key stakeholders, and helps protect Parker's employees, customers, assets, and financial interests while minimizing organizational risk.

Claims Administration & Case Management

  • Manage assigned claims across multiple lines of insurance, including workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability, property, unemployment, and other claims.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the claim lifecycle from incident reporting through closure.
  • Notify insurance carriers of new claims and serve as the primary point of contact throughout the claims process.
  • Assist injured employees throughout the claims process, including coordinating return-to-work efforts with managers, medical providers, and Human Resources.
  • Schedule appointments, obtain medical updates, and monitor case progress.
  • Monitor claim activity and follow up with adjusters, medical providers, attorneys, employees, customers, supervisors, and leadership to facilitate timely claim resolution.
  • Conduct thorough investigations by collecting evidence, interviewing involved parties, reviewing documentation, and maintaining complete, accurate, and compliant claim records.
  • Analyze claim trends, exposures, and recurring incidents to recommend strategies that reduce risk, control costs, and improve workplace safety.
  • Prepare detailed investigative summaries, reports, and recommendations for management.

Unemployment Claims Administration

  • Prepare and defend unemployment claims by researching applicable regulations, compiling supporting documentation, and developing comprehensive responses.
  • Represent Parker's during unemployment appeal hearings, telephone hearings, mediations, and other proceedings as assigned.
  • Organize case files, prepare witnesses, present supporting documentation, and communicate the company's position professionally and effectively.
  • Maintain regular communication with Operations and Human Resources to obtain information necessary to support claim decisions.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner with the Risk Manager, General Counsel, Human Resources, Operations, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and external counsel to achieve favorable claim outcomes.
  • Assist with claim reviews, reserve evaluations, settlement discussions, and resolution strategies.
  • Identify potential legal issues including EEOC matters, wrongful termination concerns, or litigation exposure and communicate findings to appropriate leadership.
  • Prepare injury-related reports, management summaries, and other documentation as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws governing workers' compensation, unemployment, liability claims, and insurance reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee, customer, and company information.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain organized claim files while utilizing claims data and trend analysis to improve processes, reduce risk, and support audit readiness.
  • Support departmental projects and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and prepare and present findings to leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships and resolve conflict professionally.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to research laws, regulations, policies, and claim documentation to support informed decision-making.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, unemployment, general liability claims, risk management, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and claims management systems.

Education and Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Experience preparing reports, claim documentation, and written correspondence.

Preferred

  • 2+ years of experience administering workers' compensation, general liability, unemployment, property, auto liability, or related insurance claims preferred.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, convenience store, or multi-location operations.
  • Experience with claims management systems and risk management software.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally attend meetings, hearings, inspections, or other work-related activities as needed.
