Job description

Medical Insurance Billing Specialist – General & Specialty Cardiology

Location: Tacoma, WA (Remote Eligible – WA State Residents Only)
Schedule: Full-time | Monday – Friday | Closed weekends and holidays
Work Environment: Remote

About Us

Cardiac Study Center (CSC) is a proud outpatient partner of Pulse Heart Institute (PHI) and has been delivering trusted cardiology care throughout the Puget Sound region for over 50 years. In 2016, CSC joined forces with MultiCare Health System to establish PHI—uniting clinical excellence, education, and innovation to transform heart health across Washington State.

Our unique structure allows CSC to operate as the employer of Pulse's outpatient support teams, giving our employees the agility of a tight-knit organization with the backing of a renowned cardiology institute. Together, we advance cardiac care through compassionate service, forward-thinking operations, and a deep-rooted commitment to patients.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

  • Fully remote position available to residents of Washington State
  • Purpose-driven work that supports exceptional patient care
  • Close-knit team environment with strong leadership support
  • Career development in specialty healthcare billing
  • Consistent Monday–Friday schedule with weekends and holidays off

About the Role

As a Medical Insurance Billing Specialist, you'll play a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of our outpatient cardiology services. Your work ensures timely and accurate insurance processing, supports patients through excellent billing communications, and strengthens clinic operations through compliant and detailed account management. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to collaborate across departments while deepening your understanding of medical billing in a specialty setting.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Claims & Insurance Follow-Up

  • Call insurance companies to check claim status, reprocess claims, and file appeals
  • Analyze aging reports and address outstanding or denied claims
  • Identify trends in insurance denials and escalate as needed

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all account activity and claim communications are HIPAA-compliant
  • Document every account interaction with clarity and accuracy
  • Post payments and ensure proper balance allocation across accounts

Billing & Communication Support

  • Adjust and resubmit claims to primary and secondary payers
  • Participate in phone rotations to support incoming billing-related calls
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve claim-related issues

What You'll Need to Succeed

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of healthcare experience
  • At least 1 year of medical billing and insurance claim processing experience
  • Familiarity with CMS1500, COB, PHI, and other medical billing terminology
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
  • Comfortable using payer websites for eligibility and claim status
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred:

  • Experience with EPIC or similar EMR systems
  • Prior billing experience in a specialty practice (e.g., cardiology)

Work Environment

This role is 100% remote, available only to candidates residing in Washington State. You'll join a dynamic and collaborative billing team, working from the comfort of your home while staying closely connected with your colleagues and leadership via digital communication platforms. Monday–Friday business hours. No weekends. No holidays.

Join Our Team

At CSC/PHI, our team is grounded in compassion, integrity, and sustainability. Whether you're scheduling appointments or processing complex billing tasks, you're part of a bigger mission—to elevate heart health and empower healthier communities. We foster a workplace that values teamwork, learning, and personal fulfillment. Join us, and turn your expertise into meaningful impact.

Pay & Benefit Expectations

CSC/PHI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Pay range: $20.70 – $37.55/hour
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off (PTO) and observed holidays
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Ongoing learning and growth opportunities
