Gateway Academy Classroom Teacher

JOB TITLE : Classroom Instructor for Alternative to Suspension (ATS) Expulsion (ATE) and Credit Recovery (CR) Students

REPORTS TO : Principal Director of Learning Superintendent

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Gateway Academy provides a customized learning approach for students in grades 7-12. The learning environment is small calm and structured. Adult support is needed to encourage student achievement. Those with a heart for youth and their successes are well suited for this position. Building positive relationships with youth that may be excluded from the traditional school setting or otherwise struggling with self and school success is invaluable and rewarding. This position provides opportunity to make a difference in the lives or our youth and for our community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Instructional Capacity

  • Maintain a caring and patient approach
  • Listen to and speak to students with respect and in a manner in which maintains integrity
  • Guide Student behavior by modeling providing them space to process and offering support as needed
  • Interact with all stakeholders in ways that support academic and behavioral objectives
  • Exhibit the ability to maintain awareness of what is happening in all parts of the classroom
  • Participate in assist facilitation and organization of and monitor students during community involvement experiences

Planning & Professional Learning

  • Interact in a positive manner with all building staff
  • Accept direction willingly from building leadership
  • Exhibit a desire and willingness to participate in continue learning and training opportunities relevant to Gateway Academys purpose and student growth
  • Maintain the integrity of Gateway Academy at all times and within all venues

    • Student Support

  • Remain positive when working with all students in an effort to build self-esteem and reach goals
  • Model appropriate behavior and language encouraging positive peer interactions and empathy
  • Maintain a clean and healthy learning environment
  • Make an effort to be mindful of student needs beyond the classroom. Work with the program director to assist students as needed.
  • Confidentiality is key at all times in order to promote student success and well-being. Must be mindful of all communication including verbal and non-verbal messages social media texts and email.

    Educational Requirements

  • Current Indiana Teaching License
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Pass a background check

  • Create a structured classroom environment
  • Maintain daily student records and document as needed
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide community involvement experiences for students (i.e. volunteering job shadow opportunities physical fitness and mindfulness)
  • Maintain frequent communication with parents of all assigned students
  • Possess a willingness to assist students with academics by providing encouragement and structure as they work through online courses
  • Be prompt dependable and maintain excellent attendance
  • Oversee and engage support staff as directed by Administration
