Position Summary :

The Clinical and Lab Support Specialist works directly with the Simulation and Lab Coordinator and the Director of Nursing in meeting all of the Health Science Division needs in the areas of lab and simulation. This individual will help to ensure all operational needs are met with a specific focus on the nursing clinical and lab operations. The individual will provide leadership in this role while focusing on clinical, lab and simulation activities that enhance faculty development and support student success across all Health Science programs while fostering innovative support in the area of interdisciplinary teaching and learning outcomes.

Position Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities :

Nursing Lab Support

  • Support for coordination of all nursing lab activities in collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Supervise students in an open lab setting and follow up on lab referrals
  • Assist with collection and analysis of program effectiveness data
  • Support alignment of lab and clinical experiences to promote student success, progression and NCLEX readiness
  • Support semester planning, room utilization, and instructional coverage
  • Support Nursing Center of Excellence and ensure incorporation of accreditation requirements
  • Adhere to lab and simulation best practices (INACSL and state / government regulatory agencies)

    • Coordinate all aspects of student resource materials and supply ordering in collaboration with faculty and the bookstore

    Nursing Clinical Support

  • Assist as needed with hiring of part time clinical and lab faculty
  • Provide support and assistance as needed with the student and faculty clinical compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with nursing administration and faculty on orientation and onboarding for part-time clinical and lab faculty
  • Provide ongoing support to all clinical and lab faculty related to all college policy and procedures, clinical agency policies, compliance and accreditation requirements
  • Assist with coordinating faculty assignments including clinical rotations / schedules
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement related to lab support, clinical education, and faculty development.
  • Participate in meetings, planning initiatives, and program evaluation activities

    • Health Science Division Simulation and Lab Support

  • Support Simulation and Lab Coordinator as needed with all simulation and lab needs while maintaining a safe environment
  • Supports with inventory and maintenance of all equipment
  • Assist as needed with administration and operation of learning center management systems to enhance and improve operations
  • Adhere to safe practices and all applicable policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with faculty and leadership to support student success initiatives

    • Collaboration & College Engagement

  • Regular attendance on campus is required for this position
  • Serve on Department and Division committees as assigned
  • Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service
  • Assist with program-level events, recruiting efforts, and campus tours
  • Other duties as assigned by Dean of Health Sciences

    • Hours / Schedule : This is a 40 hours / week position with a varied schedule based on semester course offerings. May have need for occasional evening or week-end hours.

    Physical Demands : Ability to lift and carry skills lab equipment, media, computers, and materials as needed. Position will occasionally need to work in confined darkened areas (i.e. simulation lab control room). Manual dexterity to use tools and work on mechanical parts.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Registered nurse with current unencumbered Michigan Nursing license
  • Minimum three years nursing experience
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and resolve conflicts effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with standard office and instructional software
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and adhere to FERPA and college policies
  • Proficiency with software (such as Microsoft Office) to enhance job performance

    • Preferred Qualifications :

    Additional Preferred Qualifications :

  • Ability to obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist (CHSOS) and / or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator certification within one year of hire
  • Simulation experience
  • Work experience in an academic setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with the various college stakeholders
  • Ability to be trained on the use of all simulation and lab equipment
