We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Oncology Services team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing the clinical aspects of our oncology programs, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care:
- Conducts comprehensive wellness and illness assessments including development of a differential diagnosis
- Provides interventions to prevent or treat illness including identification and treatment of symptoms, functional problems, and risk behaviors.
- Uses advanced communication skills to address complex situations and conversations.
- Intervenes to educate, guide and coach the patient, family, and caregiver(s) to establish a patient-centered plan of care and navigate complex healthcare systems.
- Leads discovery of innovations in patient care.
Nursing/Nursing Practice:
- Utilizes evidence-based practices to guide nursing practice and support patients and their families.
- Develops population profiles and conducts clinical inquiries to determine the need to change practice.
- Utilizes advanced clinical knowledge and communication skills through role modeling, consultation, and education with nurses and healthcare providers to support nursing practice and improve patient outcomes.
- Creates and develops evidence-based policies, procedures, protocols, and best practice models/guidelines using advanced clinical and specialty knowledge.
- Assists nurses and the interprofessional team to evaluate and change practice standards and ensure nursing practice is evidence-based.
Organization/Systems:
- Leads systematic quality improvement and safety initiatives based on gap assessments and data analysis.
- Drives translation of best evidence into practice and facilitates integration of multiple programs and disciplines across the healthcare system to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Collects and analyzes data while utilizing collaborative systems thinking to achieve quality, cost-effective patient care and outcomes.
- Advocates for the improvement of health care through participation in professional, private, and governmental agencies.
- Creates healthy communities and works to enhance a culture of health beyond the healthcare system.
- Utilizes expert leadership skills to influence policymakers and advocate for equitable healthcare.
- Participates as members and leaders in state/national and specialty nursing/healthcare organizations such as National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) and Maryland Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (MDCNS).
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist program with a Master's Degree;
- Post-Master Certificate, DNP or PhD, or exception per MBON regulations.
Required Licensure, Certification, Ongoing Training:
- Board certification in area of specialty or population foci aligns with job responsibilities (for example Adult-Gero, Peds, Neonatal) or have an exception per MBON regulations.
- Current unrestricted MD licensure as a registered nurse or has a multistate licensure privilege to practice registered nursing
- Current unrestricted MD certification as a clinical nurse specialist or an Advanced Compact to practice as a clinical nurse specialist.
- If you order or refer items or services for Medicare beneficiaries and you do not have an enrollment record in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS), you will need to submit an enrollment application to Medicare to be eligible for employment.
- BLS required provided by AHA or as detailed in policy.
- ACLS recommended based on area of specialty i.e. ICU.
Work Experience:
- Required: Three years of full-time experience in area of specialty.
- Preferred: Experience as a CNS and certifications in subspecialty or recent experience in subspecialty area (e.g., oncology)
You must be fully credentialled by The Johns Hopkins Hospital medical board with staff privileges to start working.
Salary Range: Minimum 53.15/hour - Maximum 82.38/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
