Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant is an integral role to the nursing team and has a significant impact on the overall delivery of care to facility customers. The CNA is responsible for providing quality care to customers and supporting the goals for shift objectives to enhance team efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide and assist with physical care of patients which will include but not limited to bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation and range of motion

2. Responsible for real-time documentation of patient care and observations

3. Communicate timely with Licensed Nurse any observed or perceived changes in patients condition or behavior

4. Assist in the dining process by preparing customer for meals; serves and collects trays, assists in setting up and feeding residents, serves refreshments. Completes meal assessment and records oral intakes accurately

5. Responsible for patient transport to scheduled therapy appointments

6. Assists in recreational, motivational and socialization activities of care program

7. Responsible for timely response to call lights and providing appropriate response or service

8. Responsible for regular rounding with customers to anticipate and identify needs and respond timely and appropriately

9. Fully understand all aspects of patients rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Responsible for promptly reporting incidents of evidence of patient abuse or violation of patients rights

10. Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services to them. Encourages growth and independence as care progression warrants

11. Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of customer room. Assists in maintaining a safe customer environment

12. Adhere to infection control procedures including but not limited to hand washing and isolation practices

13. Adhere to Par Scanning procedures to ensure accurate tally of supple usage and availability

14. Ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional

15. Maintain clinical competence through completion of annual continuing education requirements

16. May participate in interdisciplinary customer and service improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Work Environment This job operates in a post-acute setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Team member is expected to adhere to facilitys no-smoking policy.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 60 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a position in a post-acute setting that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Weekend and holiday shifts will be required.

HIPAA Team members are required to adhere to policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information. Team member are permitted to use and/or disclose only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks. Reports all suspected violation of companys HIPAA policies or procedures to facility CEO.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to recognize and react to emergent care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance, i.e. recognizing need for basic life support, control bleeding, choking, etc.

2. Basic computer skills. Must have an ability to learn new systems

3. Proficient in the English language. Good communication (verbal and written), customer service and interpersonal skills

4. Flexibility in responding courteously to immediate needs of internal and external customers; ability to establish priorities and maintain productivity despite numerous interruptions

5. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with team members, customers and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in diverse workplace and with a diverse customer population

6. Must be able to successfully prioritize workload, demonstrate initiative, and analyze situations to make sound decisions

7. Must show initiative and take action on observed needs

Required Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Required License/Certification

  • Successful completion of a Florida approved Nursing Assistant Certification course
  • Valid Texas CNA license
  • Current BLS (CPR) certification

Preferred Education/Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in a CNA role
