Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machinist specializing in large-scale horizontal machining. This role is responsible for the end-to-end setup and operation of a Toyoda FH800 Horizontal Machining Center (HMC) with a Fanuc-based control system. You will be tasked with transforming raw materials into high-precision components, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency are met.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Setup: Perform complex machine setups including the installation of tombstones, fixtures, and specialized work-holding devices on the Toyoda FH800’s 800mm pallets.
  • Tooling: Select, assemble, and preset cutting tools. Load tools into the Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) and input tool offsets (length and diameter) into the CNC controller.
  • Operation: Execute production runs, monitoring the machine for unusual noises, vibrations, or tool wear. Perform mid-program restarts and manual data input (MDI) as required.
  • Quality Control: Inspect first-off and production parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and CMM reports) to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
  • Maintenance: Perform daily preventative maintenance, including checking coolant levels, lubricating ways, and clearing chips from the FH800’s high-capacity chip conveyor system.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with programming and engineering teams to optimize feed rates, speeds, and cycle times for improved throughput.
Who You Are:
  • You quickly and decisively act in fact-changing, unexpected situations. You adjust communication content and style to meet the needs of diverse collaborators.
For This Role, You Will Need:
  • 3+ years of Toyoda Experience: Proven experience operating and setting up Toyoda FH-series machines or similar heavy-duty HMCs.
  • Control Systems: Proficiency in Fanuc 31i-Model B or similar Toyoda-specific CNC controls. Ability to read and edit G-code and M-code.
  • Blueprints: Advanced ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.
  • Metrology: Expert use of manual inspection tools and an understanding of surface finish requirements.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to handle large workpieces and perform setups involving heavy lifting (within safety limits) and overhead crane operation for loading pallets.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Problem Solver: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues or programming errors on the fly.
  • Safety Conscious: Strict adherence to PPE requirements and machine guarding protocols.
  • Efficiency Mindset: Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to minimize setup downtime (SMED).
