Benefits Specialist

PL Developments, also known as PLD, is a leading manufacturer, packager, and distributor of over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products and consumer healthcare goods.

The Benefits Specialist administers and supports the day-to-day operations of employee benefits programs, leave of absence processes, and related Total Rewards activities. This role serves as a key resource to employees, managers, and HR partners by providing guidance on benefit plans, resolving complex inquiries, maintaining data integrity across HRIS and vendor systems, and supporting compliance, reporting, and open enrollment activities. The role also provides limited backup support for Workers' Compensation and selected Total Rewards administration.

Work schedule: Monday- Friday / Hybrid Schedule

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, HR operations, or a related Total Rewards function, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience with UKG preferred; strong proficiency in HRIS platforms, benefits administration systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel required
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee information with a high degree of confidentiality and attention to detail
  • Excellent written communication, planning, interpersonal, time management, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain benefit plan provisions, processes, and procedures to employees with a high level of subject matter knowledge
  • Strong working knowledge of leave of absence administration, including FMLA, ADA, disability, and related leave processes, preferred
  • Working knowledge of Workers' Compensation processes, claims coordination, OSHA reporting requirements, and return-to-work accommodations preferred
  • Exposure to compensation or broader Total Rewards reporting is preferred, including support for job data maintenance and standard reporting
  • Ability to travel occasionally, as needed

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains advanced knowledge of the company's benefit plans, wellness initiatives, program offerings, and applicable regulatory requirements, and serves as a subject matter resource for employees, managers, and HR partners
  • Develops, documents, and continuously improves procedures and internal controls to support efficient and compliant administration of employee benefits programs
  • Audits, processes, and updates employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in carrier and benefits administration systems, and initiates related documentation as needed
  • Monitors HRIS and benefit administration systems, including UKG and carrier platforms, to ensure updates are accurately recorded, data integrity is maintained, and discrepancies are researched and resolved in a timely manner
  • Maintains effective working relationships with third-party benefit administrators, carriers, and external partners
  • Assists in the coordination, facilitation, and communication of benefit open enrollment and employee education meetings, as needed
  • Administers and coordinates leave of absence programs, including employee communication, documentation tracking, vendor coordination, and support for FMLA, ADA, disability, and related leave processes
  • Stays current on federal and state laws, regulations, and legislative changes affecting employee benefits and leave administration
  • Responds to employee benefit inquiries and provides clear guidance on available plans, coverage options, and employee cost structures
  • Communicates enrollment deadlines, required actions, and related benefit timelines to employees
  • Prepares benefits communication and educational materials to support employee understanding and program participation
  • Provides limited support for Total Rewards reporting and data administration, including standard reporting, data validation, and maintenance of job-related information as needed
  • Serves as backup support for Workers' Compensation administration, including claims coordination, OSHA reporting follow-up, and return-to-work or accommodation documentation, as applicable
  • Travels occasionally, as needed, to support benefits administration or employee meetings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily office-based work with occasional visits to manufacturing areas (PPE required)
  • Ability to lift, up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Occasional walking, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, or crouching

Starting Salary: $72,000
