Job description

MA II

The MA II ensures compliance with laboratory licensing, accreditation, and regulatory standards while maintaining required records and staying current with relevant regulations and advancements in Mohs histology. Performs quality control, preventive maintenance, and operation of laboratory and surgical equipment, including the cryostat, in accordance with Washington State Department of Health standards. Supports Quality Assurance activities through documentation, protocol development, record keeping, and tracking departmental metrics. Identifies, documents, and addresses issues affecting tissue processing, slide preparation, or reporting, escalating concerns to the Mohs surgeon and manager as needed. Prepares solutions, stains, and tissue specimens; performs frozen sectioning; maintains the quality control of slides; and manages the labeling, storage, tracking, distribution, and retrieval of Mohs histology slides. Completes data entry, surgery notes, and physician correspondence using Logician and photography software. Maintains departmental logs, records, and inventory; monitors and orders supplies; verifies shipments; and ensures organized storage of equipment and materials. Assists with sterile tray setup, autoclaving, wound checks, post-operative follow-up, surgical photography documentation, and procedural support for the Mohs surgeon. Provides patient support consistent with the patient experience model, responds to emergencies as directed, and assists with training and education activities as requested by the Mohs surgeon.

Required Qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: Graduate of an accredited school that includes hands on training in a clinical setting for medical assistants or,
  • Coursework/Training: Graduate of a registered medical assistant apprenticeship program or,
  • Coursework/Training: Completed two years of medical training in the United States Armed Forces or,
  • Coursework/Training: Minimum one year of work experience as a medical assistant that includes the following clinical skills: obtaining vital signs, administering injections, and medication administration
  • Upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Certification
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire
  • 6 months Healthcare experience.
  • 6 months Medical Assistant experience
  • Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science and successful completion of a Histotechnology training program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) within 1 year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: National Medical Assistant Certification
  • Successful completion of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Surgical Technician training program.
  • Completion of a Department of Health-approved, accredited Histotechnician or related training program (preferred but not required at the time of hire).
