Job description

Why Work for UMX?

At UMX, we believe exceptional projects are built by exceptional people. Whether you are a diver, crane operator, laborer, welder, superintendent, foreman, project manager, or support professional, every member of our team contributes to the success of our projects and the future of our company.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. We are committed to providing the training, resources, and support necessary for our employees to perform their work safely, professionally, and confidently. Our goal is simple: everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

We take pride in performing specialized marine, federal, and infrastructure construction work that demands skill, accountability, and craftsmanship. We believe quality work comes from people who care about their trade, support their teammates, and take ownership of the results they produce.

Just as importantly, we believe in building careers, not simply filling positions. Many of our leaders have spent years developing their skills, earning trust, and growing alongside the company. We value individuals who are looking for more than their next projectwe value people who want to build a future, develop their expertise, and contribute to something larger than themselves.

As UMX continues to grow, opportunities continue to grow with it. Employees who demonstrate commitment, professionalism, initiative, and leadership will find opportunities to expand their responsibilities, develop new skills, and advance their careers.

We understand that strong teams are built through trust, consistency, and shared purpose. That is why we seek individuals who are serious about their craft, invested in their future, and motivated to help build a company they can be proud to be part of for years to come.

If you are looking for a workplace that values safety, stability, leadership, and long-term growth, we invite you to join the UMX team.

Position Summary

The Field Superintendent at Underwater Mechanix, Inc. (UMX) serves as the on-site leader responsible for the day-to-day management of marine construction and commercial diving operations. This role is the primary point of accountability at the project site, ensuring that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, company standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements. The Field Superintendent directs field crews, coordinates subcontractors and equipment, and serves as the direct liaison between the workforce and the Project Manager. This position is based near Jacksonville, Florida, and requires candidates to travel in and outside the state of Florida as needed for projects. On-site presence on projects is mandatory, with job site locations changing as projects are completed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all operations comply with OSHA, USCG, ADCI, NAVFAC, and USACE safety and environmental standards.
  • Immediately investigate and report any incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions to the Project Manager.
  • Verify that all personnel hold current certifications required for assigned tasks.

Field Operations

  • Direct and coordinate all field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators on the project site.

  • Coordinate the mobilization, staging, and demobilization of equipment, vessels, and materials.
  • Manage daily field production to ensure schedule milestones are met and resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Identify and communicate scope changes, differing site conditions, or production impacts to the Project Manager.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and submit accurate daily field reports documenting crew hours, equipment utilization, and production quantities.
  • Maintain dive logs, equipment inspection records, and all required project documentation.
  • Document and photograph differing site conditions and changed conditions for change order support.

Quality Control

  • Monitor field workmanship to ensure all work meets contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct and document quality control inspections at key project milestones.
  • Coordinate with owner representatives, CORs, and inspectors during site visits and acceptance inspections.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of field experience in marine construction, commercial diving, or heavy civil/waterfront construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or lead field role managing crews of 5 or more personnel.
  • Working knowledge of marine construction methods and OSHA, USCG, and ADCI standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and dive plans.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain and maintain required federal installation access credentials.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in remote, marine, and OCONUS field environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ADCI-certified commercial diver or diver/tender.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Experience on NAVFAC, USACE, or USCG federally contracted projects.
  • Rigging and crane signalperson certification (ASME B30 or equivalent).
  • First Aid / CPR / AED / Oxygen Provider certification.

Physical Requirements
