GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB : Must demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate Injury Prevention information to families with children. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess needs of the family in regards to each child’s unique situation.

This position is completely funded by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the Corpus Christi service area that includes the following ten counties : Aransas, Bee, Goliad, Jim Wells, Karnes, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. This grant will focus on traffic safety education to all the counties with primary focus on the counties outside of Nueces. Traffic safety focus areas : car seats, bicycle, distracted / drinking driving and pedestrian safety. This grant is a year-to-year grant from October 1st to September 30th .

• Employee must meet or exceed grant objectives and deadlines.
• Must have own reliable vehicle for daily travel and transporting program materials, resources and equipment to counties served.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which will include weekends and some evenings. The employee will offset hours during the same week.
• Maintains liaisons with the local Police Departments, County Health Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Transportation, and others.
• Assists with the development and design of brochures, pamphlets, and fact sheets as necessary.
• Assists with staffing of information / safety booths during health fairs and community events.
• Provides education as requested to Driscoll Children’s Hospital patients regarding traffic safety information.
• Will provide traffic safety outreach in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) RGV district which serves eight surrounding counties, on traffic safety grant initiatives.
• Receives constructive criticism with an attitude that indicates willingness to improve; gives feedback in a constructive manner.
• Conducts educational programming including bicycle safety, pedestrian and bus safety, and teen driver safety. Assists the Injury Prevention Training Coordinator with program planning and meeting grant objectives.
• Provides traffic safety presentations to educate audiences such as Head Start, PTA’s and other groups through a variety of delivery methods in the areas of traffic safety, occupant safety, and wheeled safety within the ten designated counties served.
• Serves as a traffic safety resource for staff, volunteers, and clients, including schools, agencies, and summer recreation programs within the ten counties served.
• Is experienced with public speaking and communication, both written and verbal.
• Provides routine / administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals; i.e., scheduling and confirming events; gathering materials and resources for program delivery and ensuring delivery to off-site program locations.
• Compiles, organizes and inventories educational materials such as training aids, fact sheets, newsletters, exhibits, and demonstration projects.
• Ability to regularly lift, move, or transport program supplies and equipment; range of motion that allows for bending over, squatting, kneeling, reaching; ability to climb stairs and climb into high vehicles.
• Research opportunities to initiate new traffic safety Injury Prevention programs.
• Collects surveys for analysis of the programming, looking for the strengths and weaknesses of the programs in order to strengthen the programming.
• Interacts with program participants and community partner agencies to obtain their evaluation of the programming to share with supervisor for program analysis.
• Analyze data from surveys, evaluations and public car seat events and give provide detailed written reports monthly.
• Meets or exceeds program delivery goals and objectives established by the administrator of the grant.
• The Child Passenger Safety Technician certification class will be provided within two months of hire. Successful completion of course is required.
• Provides information for preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments to present to funders and others as requested.
• Submits all required documentation in a timely manner, including but not limited to event sign-in sheets, mileage, and other reports required by grant objectives.

• Requires a well-organized individual with an excellent capacity for effective time management.
• Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
