DESCRIPTION

Are you someone who enjoys the outdoors and loves to interact with the community? The City is looking for someone who is excited to make difference while having fun educating all ages about our parks and trails!!

Senior Community Services Leaders may work and receive training / assignments in any of the following areas :

  • Kids Club : Oversight of school-age children in afterschool and day camp settings. Leads activities, programs, and provides customer service to parents and caregivers.
  • Sports : Coaching, officiating, and scorekeeping for various youth and adult sports activities.
  • Senior Center : Program and reception duties including phones, setting up rooms, providing resource information to patrons, and general customer service.
  • Program & Reservations (Circle City Center) : Program and reception duties including phones, activity registration and permits, set-up / tear-down rooms, and facility monitoring for onsite and offsite reservations.
  • Parks : Assist with processing, approving, and posting of park permits. Schedules outdoor facility use.
  • Passports / Circulation (Library) : Tasks include library account management using library software and serve as US passport agent handling confidential information.
  • Shelving / Reservation (Library) : Shelve books using the Dewey Decimal System, set-up rooms and takedown for events and operate library AV equipment.

Senior Community Services Leaders will have increased responsibilities including stellar customer service, scheduling, and oversight of facilities and / or team members, volunteers, and contract service provides.

Education / Training / Experience

  • 18 years of age or older; graduation from high school or equivalent, ability to read and write, One or more years of experience working or volunteering in a community setting including six (6) months of experience in planning, implementing, coaching, and overseeing programs is required.
  • A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 3 months of employment, a valid CPR and first aid certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • PC 832 training must be completed within six months of employment.
  • Due to the performance of field duties which will require operation of a motor vehicle, a valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and through employment is required.
  • Skills / Abilities

  • Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, organizes, prepares, promotes, oversees, directs, and evaluates various activities and programs, services, and special events for various ages.
  • Provides participant instruction in various arts, crafts, and games, explaining the rules and techniques; confirms participant attendance in various programs.
  • Coaches, officiates, and prepares play areas and fields for sports activities.
  • Acts as liaison to parents, patrons, and participants. Exercises tact and judgment when resolving problems.
  • Opens and closes City facilities; ensures facilities are secure. Oversees and monitors facility use and rentals, including after-hours and evening use. Maintains safe public areas in neat and orderly condition.
  • Monitors patrons and participant behavior. Advises patrons on basic policies and procedures.
  • Resolves issues within scope of authority and training.
  • Performs general labor tasks to maintain City facilities in a clean, safe and attractive condition.
  • Assists in preparing rooms for programs by setting up tables, chairs, audiovisual, computers and related equipment.
  • Prepares venues for activities and events, recommends necessary repairs or supply needs to the supervisor, and inspects facilities for damage, hazards, vandalism and requests assistance as needed.
  • Sorts, retrieves and re-shelves library materials. Performs shelf reading for accuracy and ensures that materials are in proper order.
  • Responds to patron requests and provides excellent customer service, information and assistance to visitors.

    THE ORGANIZATION

    The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

    The City is organized into the following departments / organizational units : Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

    The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 922 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
