SEIU United Service Workers West Job Posting
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is our country's fastest growing union with more than 2 million members. We are on the cutting edge of building the power of workers in low wage industries and in leading the fight for social justice on issues such as health care, immigration, racial equity, gender equity, and the environment. SEIU United Service Workers West (USWW) represents over 50,000 property service workers across California. Our union brings together janitors, security officers, residential, stadium, arena, and airport workers. Our mission is to lead the way to a more just and humane society; building power for all service workers by developing member leadership and activism, winning strong contracts, organizing unorganized workers, building political and community power, and engaging in direct action to demonstrate strength and determination to win.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
Working under the direction of a Contracts and Enforcement Coordinator, this individual will be part of USWW's new Contracts and Enforcement Department. Our goal is to apply strategic organizing principles and strategies to use the enforcement of union contracts and employment law to build worker leadership and power on the shop floor.
Examples of Duties
- Engage in and develop strategies to address complex and large-scale disputes proactively across bargaining units, geographies and industries.
- Represent workers directly, collectively and individually, working with members, field staff and employers to enforce contract & resolve worksite disputes and issues.
- Effectively train, support and coordinate with field staff and members to enforce both law and contract through individual and class grievances from intake through to arbitration and, as needed, through regulatory actions and litigation.
- Negotiate settlements and contracts and support strategic campaigns in coordination with field teams to engage members and member leaders in learning through action.
- Support expansion of the Union's use of technology, mapping and mass communication to drive education and enforcement across large groups of the Union's membership.
- Develop and maintain data and mapping systems with accurate and detailed information on contracts, worksites, individual workers and service contract procurement systems.
- Prepare and manage workplans, calendars, files, and records.
- Support and participate in all aspects of the Union's field programs.
