The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager / Clinical Coordinator, responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care on a nursing unit. This role includes supervising non-RN personnel and may involve charge nurse duties when required. Flexibility is necessary as you may be called to work in other units based on staffing and patient needs. Additional responsibilities will be assigned to maintain high service standards.
Responsibilities
- Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care.
- Develop and document individualized care plans, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team in the process.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and coordinate the care plan effectively.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, adjust as necessary, and refer to other services when indicated.
- Identify educational needs for patients and families, providing necessary resources and documenting outcomes.
- Act as a preceptor for new staff members.
- Take on charge nurse responsibilities as required.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource management, and self-development.
- Complete any additional tasks as directed to ensure departmental efficiency.
- Demonstrate competency in neuro patient care and assessment.
- Exhibit skills in airway management and care for tracheostomy patients.
- Provide assistance during special neuro procedures under physician guidance.
- Gain knowledge of and participate in the 'TIA' teaching program.
- Conduct suctioning procedures as per established guidelines.
- Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients in Halo braces and those on ventilators.
Qualifications
Education : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and capable of internet research for patient care resources.
Experience : Not applicable.
Licensure : Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut.
Special Skills : BLS certification required.
