Director, Regional Branch Leader, Civil Engineering Office Leader

P5 Consulting Services is actively recruiting for Regional Branch Leaders, Office Directors, Group Managers, and Civil Engineering Practice Leaders with established civil engineering consulting firms. These roles may support growth offices, mature offices with strong backlog, or emerging markets where the right leader can build client relationships, guide multidisciplinary teams, and grow a profitable civil engineering practice.

The right leader in this classification understands strategic business planning, branch financials, client development, project delivery, staff wellness and retention, and the KPIs that drive a healthy region.

Branch Leadership Scope and Career Value

P5 is selective about the client companies we represent. Our clients are known for stable leadership, strong technical standards, employee well being, transparency, employee development/long term career growth planning.

Our roles in this classification support various regional projects such as municipal infrastructure, private development, public works, water systems, wastewater facilities, water resources, transportation improvements, traffic, land development, utility infrastructure, survey, environmental services, construction management, and capital improvement programs.

Our roles offer local and regional influence with measurable impact on organizational backlog, revenue, profitability, delivery quality, business continuity, and employee retention.

Typical Responsibilities

· Lead and grow a civil engineering branch, office, group, or regional practice within a consulting environment.

· Execute a strategic business plan tied to client growth, project delivery, workforce expansion/capacity, and financial performance objectives.

· Build trusted relationships with municipal agencies, public works departments, developers, utilities, special districts, and allied AEC partners. Lead targeted initiatives.

· Strengthen backlog through repeat client work, proposal strategy, SOQ, RFP, and RFQ direction, capture planning, interviews, and referral relationships.

· Oversee PM performance, QA/QC, risk management, client satisfaction, and margins.

· Manage workload, utilization, resource planning, recruiting needs, succession planning, and work sharing across offices or disciplines.

· Guide multidisciplinary teams across civil, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, survey, environmental, and construction phase services within multiple market sectors.

· Mentor project managers, engineers, designers, and emerging leaders while maintaining accountability, collaboration, and team trust.

· Partner with executive and discipline leadership on forecasts, hiring plans, organizational health, and operational priorities.

· Represent the firm through professional associations, civic groups, industry events, agency meetings, and community development conversations.

Common Leadership Metrics

· Revenue, contract value, hit rate, backlog, revenue, margin, work capacity, and P&L performance.

· Utilization, workload balance, staffing visibility, resource planning, staff engagement, and retention.

· PM performance, including scope, schedule, budget, QA/QC, change management, risk, billing, DSO, collections, and closeout.

· Client relationship strength, repeat work, market presence, referral activity, and strategic partnerships.

· Corporate alignment in budgeting, forecasting, monthly/quarterly reporting, and execution of priorities.

Qualifications and Skills Needed to be Successful

· B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Geomatics, or a closely related field. Advanced business or technical education is helpful for some roles.

· PE is required for most civil engineering branch leadership roles. A California PE may be required for California based opportunities.

· 8 plus years of progressive civil engineering consulting experience is typically required, with office, group, branch, practice, or senior project delivery leadership.

· Experience with municipal infrastructure, public works, land development, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, survey, construction management, or related civil engineering markets.

· Proven ability to hire, mentor, retain, coach, and develop technical staff while maintaining accountability and team trust.

· Financial acumen with revenue, backlog, utilization, margin, fee proposals, work in progress, write-offs, accounts receivable, DSO/collections, budgeting, and forecasting.

· Strong communication and project management judgment, including scope control, schedule management, change orders, staffing plans, QA/QC, contract awareness, and risk management.

· Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel). Familiarity using Deltek products, Unanet, or similar ERP programs is expected.

· Valid driver’s license and ability to attend client meetings, industry events, site visits, and local agency meetings may be required depending on the role.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation varies by client, location, experience, book of business, leadership scope, and market responsibility. The expected salary range for the opportunities represented in this posting is $130,000 to $250,000 annually. Total compensation may include annual bonus opportunity, incentive compensation, ownership path, profit sharing, or employee stock opportunities depending on the client.
