Job description

The Corporate Communications Strategist partners with internal stakeholders to create and execute high-impact, compelling communications plans that help drive engagement, support revenue goals, and enhance our customer and employee experience.

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Partner with internal stakeholders to create and execute high-impact, compelling communications plans that help drive engagement, support revenue goals, and enhance our customer and employee experience. This role is crucial in creating internal and external communications that support our business goals and strengthen our brand through effective storytelling. Implements strategies to achieve the goals for the organization and communications. Implements, revises, and sustains policies, procedures and programs. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 3 – 12 months.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Supports the development, socialization and implementation of multi-channel, multi-audience strategic communications plans that align with Goodwill’s priorities.

2. Deliver clear, researched, and consistent business communications on topics like company announcements, leadership communication, presentations, multimedia, scripts, key messages, and talking points. Distill change impacts into crisp, user-friendly communications including emails, frequently asked questions (FAQs), videos, how-to guides, presentations, and articles.

3. Contributes to and helps manage enterprise-wide corporate communications editorial calendar. Deliver creative ideas to clearly communicate brand message and values to stakeholders.

4. (Internal) Design and deliver corporate communication campaigns that use storytelling to strengthen the Employer Value Proposition and employees’ understanding of how they contribute to Goodwill’s mission.

5. (External) Leads elements of media relations efforts, including cultivating relationships with media, messaging development, media training, organizing press conferences, etc. Proactively monitors and researches the day-to-day news cycle and media landscape to identify just-in-time topics in pursuit of media coverage.

6. Works collaboratively with members of the Marketing team to consult and integrate communications strategies into campaigns. Proactively stays apprised of programs, projects and campaigns, and engages team members to elevate them through communications.

7. Provide event support across the organization through communications delivery, managing logistics and representing the brand onsite.

8. Manages agency support relationships on projects as assigned.

9. Track and report content effectiveness metrics to stakeholders, as well as continually monitor, analyze and tune messaging to maximize impact. Seek out and analyze feedback mechanisms and interpret data to recommend improvements and best practices.

10. Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. May serve as a team member or subject matter expert on formal projects or within the department. Effectively engages in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.

11. Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Periodic review of work by manager or senior coworker. Solves problems of moderate to advanced complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.

12. Technical Skill: Understands and applies professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.

13. Community Engagement: Champions Goodwill’s community engagement initiatives and serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community.

14. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Two years of college education or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.

2. Proven experience working collaboratively and managing communications initiatives from conception to execution and evaluation, including reporting, for a large-scale and diverse organization.

3. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and compelling messaging for a variety of audiences.

4. Proficiency with Associated Press style copy writing and editing, presentation and reporting skills.

5. Familiarity with utilizing a diverse array of communication channels, including digital platforms, social media, email, print, and internal communications tools, to effectively convey messages and engage targeted audiences.

6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite, SharePoint, digital communications and measurement systems, intranet platforms, content management systems, and related technologies.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Job requires the following: remain stationary for sustained periods of time; ability to move about to accomplish tasks; must be able to operate a computer or similar technology, which typically involves substantial motions of wrist, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing data, operating equipment or review thoroughness of work; ability to communicate with others and exchange information. When determining placement within the salary range for this position Goodwill Greater Milwaukee & Chicago considers education, experience, internal equity, market demands and other qualifying criteria. It is not typical for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the rage for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on facts and circumstances of each case.

Certain roles are eligible to participate in an incentive plan. Participation in this plan does not guarantee an incentive payment and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan, which are subject to change.
