The Community Counseling Center (CCC) with Azusa Pacific University (APU) is an outpatient mental health clinic providing mental health and psychological assessment services to children and adults suffering from trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, and other clinical conditions.  The clinic is a training facility staffed by supervised graduate students representing three disciplines (Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Social Work) as well as faculty / staff affiliated with APU.  The CCC serves the San Gabriel Valley community by offering a comprehensive range of services for the prevention, intervention, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.  Services may be rendered in person or via telehealth at the clinic or in multiple settings in the field (e.g., at local school districts, community agencies, or other city locations etc.).

The Associate Director of the CCC is responsible for supporting the supervision of services offered by Azusa Pacific University’s (APU) Community Counseling Center (CCC) and directing all services under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Grant (SAMHSA), including :

  • Assist the Executive Director in facilitating development, implementation, and coordination of all clinical and outreach services under the SAMHSA grant, ensuring community-integrated outreach and engagement in accordance with Center and SAMHSA goals and quality standards.
  • Assist with some aspects of the NCTSI Program, data collection and outcomes, training needs, drafting the required annual report-back to SAMHSA, review of all distributed information (written and verbal), and quality improvement.
  • Development and oversight of training in trauma-informed evidence-based practices, ensuring proper model fidelity and outcome tracking.
  • Clinical and administrative supervision to ensure provision of clinical, case management, outreach, and education services in accordance with BBS licensing requirements, APU and CCC’s professional standards, and SAMHSA requirements.

This position is fully grant-funded and contingent on grant funding.

Required Education

  • Master’s Degree required.
  • Licensed Ph.D. / Psy.D., L.M.F.T., or L.C.S.W.
  • Required Experience

  • Must have five years of clinical experience, three of which must include the provision of supervision in a mental health treatment setting.
  • Administrative and clinical experience in a community mental health setting, with knowledge of evidence-based practices and the provision of clinical supervision.
  • Training in Supervision Practices as specified by the Board of Behavioral Sciences to supervise MA / MFT / MSW interns / trainees.
  • Experience in mental health, child / family services, and programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; bi-lingual Spanish preferred.
  • Working knowledge of community resources that address the needs of the client base.
  • Ability to be flexible and work varied hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, in a changing environment.
  • Current California driver’s license, and availability of a personal car with appropriate insurance.
  • Sensitivity to the different cultures represented among the clients, families, and staff.
  • Familiarity with emergency procedures of a clinical setting.
  • Ability to model positive behaviors and APU’s values.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership skills sufficient to supervise teams of approximately eight to ten.
  • Proven experience or strong understanding of grant writing, proposal development, and report writing, including setting goals, defining objectives, and conducting data analysis.
  • Primary Duties / Essential Functions

  • Partners with the Training Coordinator and Clinical Supervisors to ensure task implementation and tracking of timeline and training needs.
  • Oversight of all data collection, entry, and analysis, and supervision of Data Management Staff and Student Assistants.
  • Acts as a research assistant and a stand-in clinical trainer for grant activities.
  • Attends meetings and maintains ongoing communication with the CCC leadership team, supervisors, and community stakeholders (i.e., School districts, city personnel, etc.).
  • Reviews client files, ensuring quality and maintenance of proper clinical documentation.
  • Audit documentation, ensuring fidelity to treatment approaches.
  • Remains available and “on-call” during times that supervisees are conducting clinical services.
  • Identifies evidence-based practices to be implemented at the CCC and leads the planning, implementation, and coordination of these trainings.
  • Participate in establishing and monitoring procedures for case referral, assignment, and statistical recording; drafts reports as needed for Executive Director review and revision.
  • Conducts regular clinical supervision meetings (individual or group) with students / clinicians for review of client services to foster the growth of the students’ clinical skills.
  • Directly supervises and monitors clinical activities, including the distribution and tracking of caseload; ensures each intern / student / clinician maintains a caseload sufficient to achieve weekly expectations of client contact and service hours.
  • Maintains knowledge of Center standards and policies as developed by APU, BBS, and SAMHSA.
  • Participates with the development and / or implementation of :

  • Trauma-informed, evidence-based training and services
  • Quality assurance and chart audits to evaluate model fidelity, service effectiveness, and compliance with funding and BBS standards
  • Data tracking and outcome measures system to evaluate project success and impact
  • Center initiatives to formalize and standardize clinical services (forms, procedures, electronic health record system, etc.)
  • Develops professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Attends and participates in staff, supervision, and support meetings, in-service programs, consultations, and CCC meetings as appropriate.
  • Receives feedback with a commitment to ongoing refinement and professional growth.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding clients and operations of the Center.
  • Exercises good judgment in problem-solving and performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • HIPAA Privacy Standards Compliance - The incumbent will :

  • Not use or disclose protected health information about any member or other party in compliance with APU’s policies related to state or federal laws, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Use appropriate safeguards to protect the confidentiality of such information.
  • Report to APU’s management any use, disclosure, or loss of protected health information not permitted by APU’s policies related to state or federal laws such as HIPAA.
  • Participate in APU’s training on HIPAA information as scheduled.
  • Establish and oversee an internal clinical audit system.
  • Ensures outcome tracking and model fidelity.
  • Provides formative and summative evaluations of supervisees when applicable.
  • Support coordination of training in trauma-informed, evidence-based practices.
  • Responsible for managing a caseload of approximately 5-6 clients per week to ensure ongoing client support and engagement.

  • Compensation

  • Grade 16 : $85,197 - $97,977 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package .
