Job description

Our client is seeking a full time, direct hire, Custodian/Maintenance team member to work in a Church environment in the Edina, MN area. With us, it’s all about finding the job that’s just right.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working Sunday – Thursday, 8:00am – 4:00pm with Fridays and Saturdays off.

Pay Rate: $18.00 - $24.00/hour, depending on skills and experience

What’s a typical day as a Custodian/Maintenance team member? You’ll be:
  • Facility preparation and maintenance: Begin the day by setting up rooms for scheduled events or meetings, performing routine cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, and scrubbing surfaces to ensure the facility is neat, clean, and ready for use. Assist in minor electrical and plumbing repairs, changing mechanical filters, maintaining and operating the building's boilers, and helping regulate heat and electricity usage in building.
  • Responding to facility needs: Throughout the day, assist groups using the church by being on call for room adjustments or setup changes, refilling supplies, and addressing any maintenance issues, such as minor repairs or equipment adjustments (for example: change lightbulbs, touch up paint, or adjust doors).
  • End-of-day responsibilities: Conclude by securing the building, performing a thorough check of all exit doors and safety systems, and ensuring that the facility is prepared for the next day’s activities.

Experience and skills we're seeking:
  • Required experience: Work experience in facility maintenance and cleaning, cleaning and custodial equipment, using garden tools including shovels, rakes, and post hole diggers, using facility automated HVAC equipment.
  • Preferred experience: Minor electrical and plumbing repair work, and ability to paint and repair walls.
  • Hands-on and independent work: This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently while also being proactive in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment, with the flexibility to manage their tasks effectively.
  • Variety of responsibilities: With a mix of cleaning, maintenance, and customer service tasks, this job offers a dynamic workday that keeps things interesting and provides opportunities to expand practical skills, from operating custodial equipment to making minor repairs.
  • Engage with a community-focused environment: If you enjoy helping others and being part of a supportive team, this role allows you to interact with staff, volunteers, and visitors, making a positive impact on the church community through your work.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50-lb objects (salt bags, choir risers and platforms)
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 40’ in height
  • Operate and drive church vehicles, operate garden tractor with snowbrush, lawn mower, snow blower

Required: Maintain current and valid Minnesota insurance coverage on your own vehicle, and a valid and current Minnesota driver’s license relative to using your own vehicle for job related transportation
