In your role as a Customs and Border Protection Officer, you will join our workforce of over 60,000 individuals, all working diligently to ensure the safety and prosperity of the American people. Your responsibilities will include:
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture regulations.
- Facilitating legitimate trade and travel.
- Inspecting individuals and conveyances.
- Determining the admissibility of individuals seeking entry to the U.S.
- Preventing illegal entry and the smuggling of prohibited goods.
Potential Duty Locations:
You will have the opportunity to express your location preferences among mission-critical areas such as:
Anchorage, AK; Douglas, AZ; Calexico, CA; Washington, D.C.; Miami, FL; Chicago, IL; Port Huron, MI; and more.
While preferences will be considered for upcoming vacancies, if selected locations are not available at the time of your offer, you may be assigned to other geographic locations based on operational needs.
Salary and Benefits:
New CBPOs can enjoy a recruitment incentive of up to $15,000 yearly for locations such as Arizona, California, Michigan, and more, spread over a three or four-year service contract.
The annual base salary for new hires starts at $40,332 and can rise up to $109,952, depending on your education, experience, and assignment location. Additionally, a fully trained CBPO can earn up to $45,000 in overtime pay.
Qualifications:
For the GS-5 level, candidates should have:
- Three years of general work experience demonstrating ability to engage with people; or
- A bachelor’s degree; or
- A combination of work experience and education.
For GS-7 level qualifications, you will need:
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-5 level; or
- A bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement; or
- A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the past five years, and must not reach their 40th birthday prior to selection. Exemptions exist for current or former federal law enforcement personnel.
All candidates will complete a pre-academy orientation and a comprehensive training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA.
