Job Title
Cleans and services the facility building areas, ensuring safety, neatness and cleanliness. Moves furniture, equipment and supplies in and around facility departments, and performs a variety of cleaning duties in order to maintain facility in an orderly and sanitary condition. Assists with meeting room break down and set up. Dry and wet mop floors, strips and buffs floors, shampoo carpets and remove stains from floors, walls, furniture and the like. Safely and securely stores Biohazard waste in the designated holding areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization in client waiting areas and restrooms throughout the facility. Services outdoor areas of facility grounds to ensure cleanliness, organization and safety. Assist with transporting supplies as needed to other Mercy Care clinics. May be required to work one Saturday of the month.
Empty and clean all wastebaskets in the soiled utility rooms, and various other areas throughout facility, and transport to the dumpster.
Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings with appropriate cleaning solutions. Cleans, sanitizes and maintains bathroom sinks, tubes, toilets, brass, mirrors, and the like.
Dry and wet mop all restroom floors and landings and operates scrubbing equipment.
Perform cleaning of floors and carpets. In doing so, removes soil and finish of floors by using mechanical stripping equipment, stripping solution, and shampoos carpeted floors by operating mechanical shampooing equipment as needed.
Washes, scrubs and disinfects walls, windows and doors and, when necessary, determines method of removing stains using a variety of cleaning equipment and supplies.
Clean and maintain front of building, outside and smoking areas. Empty trash receptacles and pick up trash from the campus. Keep entryway areas free from snow, ice & any obstructions in winter season using salt, sand, shovels, and other tools necessary.
Moves furniture and equipment as needed.
Participate in Annual Christmas giving program. Will be available to participate in 3 volunteer events. Ability to work one Saturday as needed per month.
Will perform the duties of housekeeping and laundry according to workload demands and staffing shortages and as scheduled.
Cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment and reports equipment needing further repair. Returns unused supplies to utility room, cleans cart and equipment.
Demonstrates promotes and integrates the mission of the Sisters of Mercy and its core values in daily work activities.
Promotes and participates in educational programs, both formally and informally to include outside educational programs. Annually attends all required educational programs including (but not limited to) at least one session each year of the following : fire safety, infection control, disaster response, hazard communication, resident rights / abuse, blood borne pathogens, corporate compliance and annual PPD requirements.
High School Diploma or GED preferred
1 year experience working as a Day Porter or similar work experience. Interpersonal skills, ability to work on your feet most of the shift
Work requires the ability to read, write and understand English. Six to twelve months of previous work related experience is needed. Analytical ability to read and understand instructions and add and subtract numbers. Requires the ability to understand and respond to written and verbal instructions. Occasionally requires contact with patients and / or visitors, which involves ordinary courtesy.
Must be familiar with cleaning activities for office, clinic, rest room, and kitchen / warming areas and lunch rooms. Must be generally familiar with building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services.
Physical, Mental and Visual Requirements
Work requires lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds on a daily basis.
75 - 100 lbs. Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time) 25 - 75 lbs. Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) 1 - 25 lbs. Constant need (66% to 100% of the time)
NOTE : Lifting and carrying of weights exceeding 50 lbs. is often accomplished with assistance from one or more persons and while wearing the required, appropriate safety equipment.
Work requires standing for up to two hours at a time on an hourly basis.
Work requires climbing, ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding or ramps.
Work requires stooping and bending.
Work requires ability to reach and grasp objects.
Work requires pushing or pulling supply carts on a daily basis.
Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to observe areas needing attention / correction. Read cautionary labels; respond to written instructions from staff.
Frequent need (66% to 100% of the time) to see things clearly beyond arm's reach. Observe and assist in general maintenance; observe problems throughout property.
Working Conditions
Requires working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle pulls. Position requires working some weekends and holidays.
Moderate reasoning development. Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to a variety of practical situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may occasionally involve minor deviations. Needs ability to think rationally beyond a specific set of instructions.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Facilities Manager. Has no responsibility for leading or supervising the work of other employees.
Participates in health fairs or community events on weekends as requested 3-4 times a year.
