LSU School of Dentistry Endodontics Department is currently seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 2 at our New Orleans location. The employee will provide chair side assistance to dentists and dental students in a variety of specialties which include but not limited to: Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, Pedodontics, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics. The employee will work under the general supervision of the dental assistant supervisor in the sophomore, junior and senior clinic, General Practice Residency Program and the Emergency Dental Clinic at the LSUHSC School of Dentistry.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience or training as a dental assistant or dental hygienist.
Job Duties and Other Information
Duties and responsibilities included, but not limited to:
- Assist dentists and dental students with chair side treatment of patients
- Maintain and stock cabinet
- Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
- Chart patients according to LSU SD systems (Axium Computer knowledge)
- Give fluoride treatments as directed by dentist or student
- Give follow-up home instructions as directed by dentist or student
- Check inventory and order supplies when needed.
- Knowledgeable of computers.

Appointment Type: Classified Probational Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined by department. Work Location: 1100 Florida Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119 Compensation: This is a Civil Service Position. There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.05 per hour for the Dental Assistant 2 title and $14.06 for the Dental Assistant 1 title with an additional $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification and or additional $1.50 for EDDA (Expanded Dental Duty Dental Assistant). This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
