1. Introductory information:
This temporary position is located in the University of Minnesota Genomics Center (UMGC) where we provide services to University and external researchers). We are seeking a dedicated, self-motivated employee at our CCRB Minneapolis campus to work in the UMGC's operations. The successful candidate will help to conduct experiments under the direction of UMGC scientists using genomics, genetics, and molecular biology techniques. This position represents a rare opportunity to be actively involved in cutting-edge genomics research projects that will enable student employees to develop deeper wet-bench skills and work in the CoLab.
2. Identify the major job functions
Assist scientists in research experiments using fundamental genomics, genetics, and molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation and purification, PCR techniques, colony picking, etc.
Assist UMGC scientists in lab work, such as the preparation of reagents and solutions using standardized protocols.
Accurately perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on samples using instrumentation including QuBit fluorometer, Agilent fragment analyzer, agarose gel electrophoresis, Loading sequencers etc.
Accurately and comprehensively document experimental results and data using the UMGC’s laboratory information management system (FMPro)
General ordering, receiving including Inventory and general lab clean up.
Training new incoming undergraduate students.
Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
Required (Minimum) Qualifications:
Position requires BA/BS biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, or related discipline and two years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six years. Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely, independently motivated, able to manage time and meet deadlines, strong communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, reliability and accountability of work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive molecular biology laboratory experience in preparation of sample QC using Agilent Tapestation and Bioanalyzer and Database management using File Maker Pro system. Direct experience with and knowledge of genomics technologies is preferred. Demonstrated experience in research and or Service lab. Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $24.55-$25.25/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
Work Profile: This position has been designated as Profile 1, Office Lab-Based - is expected to work primarily on-site in the office/lab.
Only occasionally and inconsistently working remotely.
