Truck Driver I
Reporting to the Office Manager, the Truck Driver is responsible for delivering sack feed to assigned animal feed stores and retail locations in a safe and efficient manner. This position is responsible for the safe and legal operation of the company's automatic semi-truck, dry van with lift gate and electric pallet jack, as well as timely delivery of product, comprehension of various transportation documents and operating necessary mechanical controls while demonstrating safe driving practices. Will interact with customers in a professional and appropriate manner to ensure effective communication regarding customer problems and requests.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Transports product to assigned location ensuring timely delivery of product
- Ensures proper handling and unloading of product to assure safety and minimal risk of damage
- Provides safe and timely transportation of product from origin to destination
- Responsible for safe and legal operation of commercial motor vehicle in accordance with all local, state, federal, DOT laws and company policies
- Inspects vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues
- Reports to assigned dispatcher or supervisor on a daily basis for route instructions
- Reports defects, accidents, or violations
- Communicate with all levels of staff in the organization
- Complete necessary paperwork / documentation related to truck operations and product such as logs
- May load and unload trailers; secures loads safely and accurately
Additional responsibilities may include performing other duties and / or special projects as assigned, and working in the warehouse as needed or as a backup.
Knowledge of DOT and state regulations governing safe driving, hours of service inspection, safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle, and vehicle safety and control systems is required. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff throughout the organization, build and maintain positive working relationships, work overtime as needed, complete all necessary paperwork / documentation, meet and maintain the medical standards of the US DOT, and maintain logs and handle other paperwork as required is also required.
Experience and training guidelines include 2 years of experience operating a truck with a Class A license, a strong work ethic, good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, a high school graduate or equivalent, detail-oriented and thorough, a valid California Class A commercial driver's license, a clean DMV record and current medical card, ability to commit to 40 hour work weeks, M-F, forklift experience, and liftgate and electric pallet jack experience is a plus.
Physical and mental requirements include frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, crawling, pushing, pulling and climbing, ability to lift up to 50lbs, ability to push up to 45lbs, and constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work.
Working conditions include air conditioned semi-automatic newer truck and work is performed in outside weather conditions.
