Insurance Specialist
Nature of Work : This position typically reports to a Manager, Fiscal & Business Administration, Safety Compliance Manager or other appropriate supervisor of a department or clinic with responsibility for insurance claims. To be successful in this non-exempt position, the Insurance Specialist must have knowledge of insurance related processes and terminology, release of records law, and data management and tracking computer systems, as well as applicable confidentiality and HIPAA laws, and university / departmental policies and procedures. This position requires good written and oral communication skills in order to effectively interact with insured individuals, claimants, medical and other service providers, insurance company representative
Responsibilities
Referral Management
- Phone reception / answering main line and routing calls or follow-up as appropriate both within the ES program staff and / or to other university or community entities based on the inquiry.
- Receive, review, and process referrals from families, healthcare providers, schools, and community agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of referral documents and records.
- Communicate with families to briefly explain program services and ensure families are still interested in moving forward with the process.
- Ensure compliance with timelines and documentation standards set by state and federal guidelines.
- Collect and verify demographic, medical, and developmental information to initiate the intake process.
- Serve as the first point of contact for families, providing compassionate guidance throughout the intake process.
- Process medical all medical records requests from FL DOH, attorneys and families.

Qualifications
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one to three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational / technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet or database software preferred.
