The Riverside County Fire Department is currently seeking to fill Fire Prevention Technician vacancies located in Perris.
Additionally, this recruitment may be used to fill other vacancies throughout the County.
Incumbents will be expected to drive throughout Riverside County and perform fire safety inspections of vacant land and buildings; to assist in fire safety education programs; and to do other work as required.
Incumbents of positions in this class work independently in the field under the general supervision of the Supervising Fire Marshal assigned to the Hazard Reduction Program.
Incumbents are responsible for weed abatement and residential inspections in an assigned area of the County and for disseminating fire safety information to the public.
Competitive candidates will have completed one or all of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector Series I courses (IA, IB, IC, and ID) at the time of application.

The Riverside County Fire Department is one of California's largest integrated, cooperative, regional fire protection organizations.
The Department, a unique partnership between State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the County of Riverside, serves 19 partner agencies and 1 community service district.
The Department has five core values : Leadership, Competence, Integrity, Safety, and Customer Service.• Inspect assigned areas of the County for flammable vegetation hazards, issue notices of violation of fire safety laws and regulations.
- Conduct re-inspections to determine progress towards compliance with laws and regulations.
- Assist in presenting fire safety education programs to schools and other community groups.
- May perform routine fire and life safety inspections of various occupancies.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports of properties in compliance or violation of fire safety laws and regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of graphs and charts for use by the Fire Prevention Program staff.
- Perform AB38 and Defensible Space InspectionsKnowledge of : Common fire hazards and fire safety practices.
Ability to : Learn to understand, interpret and apply Hazard Reduction and fire safety laws and regulations; make accurate observations, evaluate situations and adopt practical courses of action; read maps and follow directions; work cooperatively and effectively with other employees and the public; prepare routine reports and maintain accurate records.
License : Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required.
