Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking experienced, Emergency Medicine residency-trained physicians for an ongoing locum tenens opportunity in Amarillo, Texas.

This is an opportunity to practice meaningful, high-acuity Emergency Medicine within a major regional hospital serving communities throughout the Texas Panhandle and surrounding tri-state area. Physicians manage a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, pediatric, and trauma presentations within a well-resourced department supported by substantial physician and APP coverage, dedicated scribes, advanced diagnostics, and comprehensive specialty consultation.
With day, swing, and night shifts available—and approximately 30 shifts requiring coverage each month—this assignment offers both significant scheduling flexibility and the opportunity to establish a consistent long-term practice.

Coverage is available across a range of 10-hour shifts:

• 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM
• 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM
• 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM

This staggered model provides meaningful overlap during peak arrival periods while creating options for physicians who prefer traditional days, evening swings, or overnight practice.

Emergency Department Profile

• Approximately 54,000 annual visits
• 49 ED treatment beds
• Approximately 2.1 patients per hour
• Approximately 31% admission rate
• Level III Trauma designation
• High-acuity regional patient population
• Substantial physician and APP coverage
• Scribe support available
• Epic EMR

Approximately 60 hours of daily physician coverage, extensive specialty support, high clinical acuity, and access to advanced laboratory resources.

Clinical Scope
Physicians manage a diverse range of emergency presentations, including:

• Adult and pediatric emergencies
• Trauma evaluation and stabilization
• Cardiac and neurologic emergencies
• Respiratory illness and failure
• Sepsis and other critical medical presentations
• Abdominal and surgical emergencies
• Orthopedic injuries
• Behavioral health emergencies
• Resuscitation and procedural Emergency Medicine
• Admissions, observation decisions, and interfacility transfers
• Supervision and collaboration with Advanced Practice Providers

Candidate Requirements

• MD or DO
• Emergency Medicine residency trained
• ABEM or AOBEM Board Certified
• Board Eligible candidates considered within five years of residency completion
• Active Texas medical license strongly preferred
• Current ACLS
• Current PALS
• One or more years of recent Emergency Medicine experience
• Comfortable supervising and collaborating with APPs
• Available for a combination of day, swing, or night coverage
