Job description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Amazon is looking for a results-oriented individual to lead Energy Strategy for fully integrated utilities within the AMER Central Team. In this role, you will lead a team of professionals responsible for delivering gigawatts of large scale power infrastructure in partnership with electric utilities, regulators and energy companies across multiple AWS regions. The candidate will grow and manage a diverse team actively delivering dozens of high voltage transmission and substation builds across these different geographies. They will evaluate opportunities to optimize total cost of ownership by managing energy capital and operating expenses. The candidate will originate and execute scalable strategies, mechanisms and programs to achieve these outcomes, working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will manage utility interactions, work with internal and external engineering, real estate and planning teams to evaluate data center sites and develop the electric infrastructure strategy to serve those sites, and lead the execution of these power infrastructure strategies, including but not limited to project managing the utility, EPC and/or Owners Engineer to meet AWS’ needs. The candidate will lead an integrated team to implement energy program requirements and deliver tangible reliability and cost saving results.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background, a proven track record of delivering innovative energy projects, and experience managing high-impact fast-pace teams. The candidate will have experience working with regulated electric utilities to develop, negotiation, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, and related tariffs and agreements. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you and your team will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s regional infrastructure expansion are met.

Key job responsibilities
· Manage diverse team owning the end-to-end scope for delivering and managing power capacity to AWS data centers.
· Manage electricity utilities, EPCs and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure on time, on budget and to specifications.
· Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to accelerate delivery of power capacity and optimize total cost of ownership.
· Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
· Collaborate with the internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects in a timely and accurate fashion.
· Work with utility regulators to develop strategies, policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS goals.
· Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
· Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.

A day in the life
An individual in this role will lead team one-on-one, regional Monthly Business Reviews, partner with key stakeholder to review capacity, CAPEX, and OPEX planning, and other implement mechanisms that drive the regional team forward. They are the face of AWS to the regional electricity grids and external executive teams.
