Job description

Manager, Project Procurement Engineering

The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing startup in the nuclear and energy space creating a never before seen fleet-scale approach to building nuclear reactors. Through its design-once, build-many approach and coalition building across communities, regulators, and financial stakeholders, The Nuclear Company is committed to delivering safe and reliable electricity at the lowest cost, while catalyzing the nuclear industry toward rapid development in America and globally.

About the Role

The Manager of Project Procurement Engineering plays a critical role at the intersection of engineering design, nuclear regulatory compliance, and supply chain execution. This role is responsible for ensuring that all procured equipment, materials, and systems meet technical specifications, quality requirements, and regulatory standards while enabling rapid, scalable deployment of nuclear infrastructure. As we accelerate toward building a fleet of advanced reactors, you'll lead the procurement engineering function to translate complex technical requirements into sourcing strategies that support delivery, safety, and cost goals.

Responsibilities

  • Procurement Engineering Leadership: Lead the team responsible for technical evaluation of vendor proposals, specification reviews, and procurement package development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between engineering, quality, supply chain, and project management teams to align design intent with vendor capabilities and delivery schedules.
  • Technical Documentation & Review: Ensure all technical procurement documents (e.g., datasheets, specifications, ITPs, QA requirements) meet internal standards and industry regulations (e.g., ASME, NRC, IEEE).
  • Supplier Interface & Oversight: Support vendor selection, design reviews, and technical clarification processes, including non-conformance resolution and design change management.
  • Process & Risk Management: Improve procurement engineering processes to reduce rework, enhance traceability, and ensure nuclear-grade quality and documentation compliance.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or Systems Engineering required; Master's degree or PMP certification is a plus
  • 710+ years of experience in procurement engineering, systems engineering, or technical supply chain roles in nuclear, energy, aerospace, or heavy industry
  • Deep understanding of technical procurement, including equipment specifications, vendor qualification, and design documentation
  • Experience working within regulated environments, particularly those governed by NRC, ASME NQA-1, or other nuclear/defense standards
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional coordination between engineering, QA, and supply chain teams
  • Strong technical writing, vendor management, and organizational skills

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • 401k with company match
  • Medical, dental, vision plans
  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays
  • Annual company retreats

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
